Ordinarily Perfect is a women’s drama novel by K.C. Leigh. It centers on the relationship between Alistair, his wife Lauren, and new found ally, Damien, when Alistair suffers a shocking and horrific accident. As Ally loses control of his whole body, Damien is wasting away with Motor Neuron disease, and physiotherapist Lauren finds her home and work lives combining in the worst possible way. Striking a balance between being a doctor and being a wife is hard for Lauren as she manages Ally’s recovery. Ally, for his part, struggles with feelings of helplessness, and the discovery of secrets which might halt his recovery for good.

If you’re looking for an in-depth, detailed account of the painstaking and heart-breaking process of total physical recovery, then K.C. Leigh has delivered it in spades. It is a highly technical and very medical book, which will put some readers off in the process, but it is also clear to see the author’s commitment to delivering the truth about the struggles Ally faces during his time in hospital. Damien’s side story was also fuelled with emotion, and Lauren’s journey to handle the total derailment of her idyllic life is both heart wrenching and inspirational. Ordinarily Perfect puts all its focus on characters and true-to-life medical facts, making for an in-depth, realistic read that’s sure to delight audiences who love a good cry. Overall, a well-written story by a dedicated author with an important message about struggles and determination.
