Paladin Unbound: An Archives of Evelium Tale is a work of fantasy fiction by author Jeffrey Speight. The work is suited to the adult reading audience owing to depictions of fantasy violence and gore. We follow protagonist Umhra the Peacebreaker throughout this daring and deadly tale. Umhra already deals with a lot of discrimination against his half-Orc mixed heritage, so he has to take any job he can find to make ends meet. When one such job leads him into the path of a truly ancient evil, it will take an insurmountable loss for Umhra to ask for help. Questing against dark forces, Umhra must protect his own identity while also risking everything for the kingdom he calls home, even if it doesn’t always treat him like the hero he could become.

As a D&D player and Warhammer enthusiast, this is the kind of fantasy novel that delivers everything you want from the detailed worldbuilding and gritty combat elements of a fantasy battle novel. Beyond this, though, author Jeffrey Speight has a keen sense of emotional realism within each of the book’s main characters, particularly in Umhra’s origin story, his motivations, and his struggles. This grounds an epic work in something truly real, delivering a story that readers will find themselves deeply invested in as the chapters roll forward. The story flies by because of it, and I was satisfied with its ending but immediately hungry for more from this world and the author who created it. Overall, I would highly recommend Paladin Unbound for fantasy fans everywhere. A well-crafted read indeed.

Such an epic adventure! I hope there will be a second novel!
