Author Biography

We wrote this 2nd book to give a voice to our DID/MPD which has been explored many times in film and television to explain what is it really like for us living with this condition and what causes it? As the author we reject the dangerous myths and misconceptions created by the mainstream media. We do not change clothes every ten minutes. We are not dangerous serial killers. We are real—all of us. I am. We are.

Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse: Book 2 is a nonfiction memoir written by A.J. Mouse. In her first book, the authors shared the experiences of the 10 alternate personalities of Mouse, an eight-year-old with Dissociative Identity Disorder. The first alternate, Peter, was born when Mouse turned 4. Jade, who is one of the authors of these books, was created when Mouse was 11 years old. That was also the time when Mouse froze and stayed in what the alternates call The Deep. In this book, A.J. Mouse continues documenting the changes taking place since Anne, the newest alternate, was created. This book is co-written by Jade and Anne, whose journals and emails form the basis of the manuscript.

Book 2 is every bit as enthralling as the author’s first one, Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse. That book was a memorable and mind-expanding look at Dissociative Identities, but it was primarily a beautifully written and perceptive memoir. Parts, Pieces and Aspects continues that story fluidly and eloquently; it also answers questions I had about several of the alternates. While it’s been some time since I read the first book, I immediately felt as though I were back at ease with Jade, Anne, and the others. I appreciate each of these alts in ways that it’s hard to express, and their bond of affection and care for the eight-year-old Mouse is endearing and real. I’m also a Southpaw and felt an instant kinship with the iconic Peter and deep respect for his innate guardianship of the other alts and willingness to endure real pain for them, but I’d be hard pressed to say any of these alts weren’t people I’d want in my life as friends. My biggest regret in reading this book is that it ended, as all books do, and I’ll be watching for the next installment in this memoir. Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse is most highly recommended.

Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse: Book Two by AJ Mouse is a continuation from the author’s previous book on DID or Dissociative Identity Disorder. I have read the first book and found it to be wonderful so I was happy to pick up this part of the story. This book continues where the first one left off in the sense that it tells us about what has been happening in AJ Mouse’s life since then and the new challenges as well as progress made. The book is divided simply into chapters and is mainly written by two of the personalities, Jade and Anne. The original personality, or Mouse as she is called, is the one who was initially abused and the intense trauma resulted in splits or multiple personalities over the years.

Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse: Book Two is a great piece of writing and I love that it does so much in shedding some much-needed light on this little-understood disorder. DID or Dissociative Identity Disorder, or Multiple Personality Disorder as it used to be called, is sometimes misdiagnosed and frequently misunderstood or even demonized. That is why this disorder needs to be thoroughly known not only by professionals but also by laypeople to truly understand what patients with this disorder go through. A book like this can go a long way towards reducing the stigma around mental health problems in general. I found this book written by actual multiple personalities to be a rare and fascinating glimpse into the mind of someone with DID. AJ Mouse writes in a highly engaging, gripping way with just the right touch of humor and I found myself rooting for her and all of the personalities, especially Mouse, throughout. I highly recommend this book!

Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse is the second installment of a striking memoir penned by two of the alternative personalities of a person with Dissociative Identity Disorder. Jade is one of ten alternate personalities but, although she is not the original personality, she is the host personality. Anne is the most recent alternative personality to emerge. Having met Jade, Zen, Neil, Nancy, and the original personality, Mouse, Anne must now meet Peter, Jane, Lucy, and Ray as she leads them all forward to seek justice for the abuse Mouse suffered as a child at the hands of a pedophile referred to only as ‘The Monster’.

A memoir that is brave and unflinching in the telling, Part, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse can be harrowing at times as the alternative personalities, or ‘alters,’ recount for Anne their memories of abuse and the psychological survival strategies employed to endure it. While this does include the formation of new alternative personalities at times, each of the alters having had a distinct reason for coming into being, the memoir discusses general dissociation as well. While sensitive in discussing traumatic events, the authors don’t gloss over the actions either and this will be difficult for some people to read. Hope and the healing to be gained by facing the past are the focus of this striking memoir and resolute honesty is one of the tools employed in telling a story of surviving horrific abuse. Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse is a disquieting yet optimistic account of living with DID.

Loved this book every bit as much as the first book....Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse. The story flowed through and i found myself back in the story of Intrigue and sadness and never ending love and support for Mouse and all the other alts. Totally in love with Peter of course but all the alts brings something different to the table.
Written with such talent and sensitivity, the author allows us to understand a lot more the complications of Dissociative Identity Disorder and to open our hearts and minds to being different.
I absolutely recommend this book and will be waiting for the third book. Congratulations A J.Mouse

One thing I love about AJ Mouse’s novels was experiencing something that you don’t think is common, but it is surprising how her books have a connection to me/my life that spans beyond what we deem as normal.
I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of her new book; Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse. It picks up from the first book, expanding from Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse. I love this series, and each work allows me to see in my mind’s eye of these ten beautiful people.
Again taking up the pen are Jade and Anne, but we had a bit more of an insight into the others. Peter’s survivor spirit, Ray’s dance parties, Jane’s calm and beautiful soul and Lucy’s understanding of passion and touch.
Miss Mouse gives us much warning when the rabbit-hole could be too profound for some, but I would suggest you read even with this advice to skip as you need to see and feel. Monsters are not hiding under the bed but in plain sight.
I adore this book and the series. My love of these ten people makes my heart sing. The honesty and compassion of this book brought me to tears, laughter, anger and joy.
This again has knocked another big-time fantasy author off my top ten #1 books. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to see the world behind that curtain people fear to open, that monster hides behind normality, and a mental disorder does not mean you are an odd duck.
Exceptional and insightful, 5 out of 5 stars!

This book is just as magnificent as the first one. Reading about all this 'body' has been through I have to keep reminding myself that this is not a book of fiction. It is an amazing insight into the life of a person with DID but more so, it is an insight into the alternatives that make up the person who is generally referred to as Jade. After reading this book I found myself contemplating the aspects of all the alternatives and I find myself seeing bits of all of them in me. I can understand how, after facing the incredible traumas that Mouse had faced, it wouldn't be too difficult to have one part of you take over and become different person that deals with certain aspects of your life. As a person who generally only reads fiction stories I must say Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse is a book I will always be grateful for reading. It is definitely one you don't want to walk past!

I could not put the book down. It following on from the first book which details the life of Anne-Jade and all her alternatives. It opened my eyes to the world of the severely abused, whose psyche calls upon 'alternative personalities' who take over the operation of the body of the original personality when events become more than can be tolerated - it seems it is that - or die! Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse detail the everyday problems of a woman trying to live a 'normal' life, by hiding her 'alternatives' and flying under the radar of the people with whom she works. It also details the struggle to know and understand what brought all the alternatives into being, as much is hidden also from the original personality - who had long ago decided to hide forever within the depth of her being - and the various alternatives who came along at subsequent times of great trauma, during the course of the first 40 years of Anne-Jades life. A confronting story filled with horrific abuse, however one that also filled me with awe that any person could endure so much and still survive; and the incredible way the psyche will go to any length to ensure the survival of a human being.

It’s an amazing book that really inspires readers and shows a different side to everything. It’s so real and strong .

When I read the first book, 'Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse', I had found a book that had a profound impact on me. I had been highly anticipating the release of book two. When I received it, I started back at the beginning by reading Book 1 again, then immediately followed it with Book 2. Parts, Pieces and Aspects follows on from the first book, still introducing us to Anne and the other alters and revealing more of their past, providing us with insight as to how the alters came to be. This book had me feeling a range of emotions. I laughed a few times and cried a lot. I got angry at how people can treat other humans, especially children, but my eyes have been opened to what does go on in this world. I highly recommend this book to everyone. If you are after a story about survival, this is it!

In 'Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse', we meet Anne and Jade, as we discover how the two personalities share the one body. Actually, they are only two of ten personalities or alters, as they are referred to. The book introduces us to the different alters, their particular roles and an insight into how they came to be. Reading this book had a profound impact on me and I highly anticipated the release of book two. When I received the second book, I started back at the beginning by reading Book 1 again, then immediately followed it with Book 2. 'Parts, Pieces and Aspects', follows on directly from the first book, still introducing us to Anne and the other alters and revealing more of their past, providing us with more detail as to how the alters came to be. This book had me experiencing a range of emotions. I laughed a few times, cried a lot and even felt angry at how people can treat other humans, especially children.
The book is well written and engaging. It explores topics that are normally swept under the carpet, but here are very much brought to the surface as we are given a glimpse into the life of someone with DID (formally known as MPD) with an insight as to how the brain deals with trauma.
I highly recommend this book to everyone. If you are after a story about survival, this is it!

Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse Continues from book one providing further insight into who I call the team of protectors who came into being to protect Mouse after horrendous acts. These are not characters in a book but a community in one navigating every day life and doing a damned good job of it. I highly recommend these books not only as an insight into DID which is often sensationalised in movies and media but also serves as a reminder that behind every face we meet their is a history of events that have structured each person into who they are. You’ll cry, you’ll rage but you will find humanity, hope and strength within this book.

Once again I was compelled through the stunningly honest portrayal of DID and found myself crying while reading throughout some of this book. Taking immense courage and showing such bravery in writing out their story and the honest truths learned along the way, I couldn't put this book down once I picked it up. Due to the nature of my work I resonated with the experience of hearing similar things to what they had to hear from the monsters of this world. It broke my heart to hear the stories and made me want to reach through the pages and let them all know how brave they are and to give them a hug at having the courage and strength to tell it all. Beautifully written and yet so heartbreaking to read at the same time. As much as the story made me cry, I am determined to see it through because as long as they have the strength to tell their story, I will read the books to their conclusion.

This book is just add amazing to read add the first, would recommend reading.

I could not agree more with the review given by Jack Magnus for Reader's Favourite. I was grateful to have read a true and accurate account of this much maligned and misunderstood condition. I found all the 'alters' to be very real and 'alive' as personalities in their daily activities, who I had no trouble identifying with; for the various reason for their emergence and continued existence. I recommend it as a 'must read' for all people in the health and legal professions who may be better able to understand the condition; and help right some of the injustices these people have suffered from our misperceptions of the condition.
