Author Biography

J. Elizaga is a fan of science fiction and science mysteries. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she peered over her father’s shoulders as he watched TV shows such as In Search Of, and Carl Sagan’s Cosmos during the 1970s.

She lives in California and works in information technology. She used to write stories when she was in high school but had set aside her hobby for college and career…until she attended a writer's conference in San Francisco in 2010. The experience unsealed a door in her mind that she thought had long closed.

J. continues to work in training programs by day, and makes time to write stories about humans who face extraordinary circumstances and discover their superhuman abilities.

Penchant for Darkness is a work of fiction in the paranormal thriller, adventure and science fiction sub-genres, and was penned by author J. Elizaga. Written for teen and adult audiences, the work is accessible to all readers with very sparing and moderate use of adult language. In this exciting novella, we meet Miles and Richelle, who have had problems with pregnancy for many years, and decide to try to forget their troubles on an island far away. But when forces from across the universe home in on Miles, a new mystery begins to unfold that will change everything about his relationship with Richelle, and his place amongst the planets far beyond our own.

Author J. Elizaga has crafted a highly exciting novella that throws the reader right into the action and is a perfect coffee table read for science fiction fans looking for a breaktime adventure. I enjoyed the development of Miles and Richelle, whose relationship forms a strong and realistic center to the tale itself. This allows us to relate to them and root for Miles as this strange situation is thrust upon him. The science fiction concepts of the other beings and their special abilities were well-conceived and well-described, presenting both villains and allies with a dynamic use of language that made them leap off the page. Overall, this makes Penchant for Darkness a highly engaging read with plenty of interesting twists and lots of content for its novella length, and I would certainly recommend it to fans of paranormal adventure and science fiction everywhere.
