Randy Bradley is at the end of his tether. He has been fired from his job, and his marriage to his wife, Dawn, is about to collapse as she is suing for divorce. It would probably be easier to handle if he could get his wife to listen to him, but that boat seems to have sailed long ago. While sitting on the beach and considering his options, he chances upon a woman trying to commit suicide whom he rescues. She disappears the next morning but not without telling Randy a frightening story involving escaping from pornography, illegal trafficking, and murder. Randy is determined to help this stranger no matter the cost, which he does not realize could be everything he holds dear in David L. Maurer’s Phantom Of The Beach.

A conflicted family man goes the distance to save a stranger from a fate worse than death in David L. Maurer’s psychological thriller. Phantom Of The Beach brings the real face of the wrong side of the tracks to life in a stunning fashion. Maurer’s characters are realistic; a prime example is Randy. His inner battles with himself trying to justify his actions in his marriage create a disturbing subplot that plays itself out in millions of homes globally. Claudia represents everything about the disturbing aspects of human trafficking we prefer to ignore for a good night’s sleep. The discussions between the characters are deep and moving, which endears us to their motivations with little explanation needed. Maurer’s immersive storytelling style draws you into an emotional journey that will move you. Phantom Of The Beach is a unique novel without comparison.

Phantom of the Beach by David L. Maurer is an intriguing suspense thriller about Randy, a young man from Boston, who escapes city life and the people surrounding him in exchange for a quieter and fresher experience. Randy has been confused for most of his life and has been itching to find the answers to some personal questions that he has meant to address. After recently moving to the coast of Maine, Randy finds a mysterious woman on the beach who will change his life forever. Soon enough, he is forced into a dark and unknown world of exploits from sex to art, films, and fantasy. Who is this mysterious woman? Does she have the answers Randy is looking for? Is she even real? Or is she just in Randy's fantasy? Read on and find out in this unique and gripping love story.

Phantom of the Beach by David L. Maurer is an excellent example of a thrilling love story with enough suspense to keep your attention until the last page. Mental illness is not something to be taken lightly. This awareness allows Maurer to create a compelling cast of characters that we can empathize with, which throws us into a fantastical world that blurs the line between fantasy and reality. It is as much a romantic mystery thriller as a story about struggling with mental illness and healing from trauma. Maurer combines these two elements to give us a tale consistent in its narrative and doesn't shy away from showing us life's more gritty and darker side. It is a must-read for those who want a fresh take on romance with a bit of mystery.

Everything seemed to be going badly for 36-year-old Randolph Bradley all at once. He has lost his job, he is on the verge of getting a divorce from his wife, whom he still loves, and he has been diagnosed with a heart condition, the same one that killed his father at a young age. Randy thought that he needed a break from everything, including the outside world. That led to his decision to stay in an abandoned guest house near the coast of Maine. There, he saves a mystery woman from drowning. He later discovers that evil people were after the woman’s life. After spending the night with her, he becomes even more determined to save her from her oppressors. Who is this woman? What business does she have with those following her? How will this decision to save her affect Randolph and his family? Would his marriage still be beyond redemption? Find out this and much more in this psychological thriller, Phantom of the Beach, beautifully written by David L. Maurer.

So many things make Phantom of the Beach such a wonderful book. First, the use of the first-person point of view and later switching to the third-person narrative is just as amazing as it is unique. I also enjoyed how the author presented Randolph’s thoughts. The use of suspense made the book irresistible. I also enjoyed the flashbacks and the dialogue. There were so many lessons one could learn, especially about family life. David L. Maurer employs language that makes the imagery more prominent and enables the reader to experience it. Phantom of the Beach is everything a good book should be, and I hope readers will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed did.
