Polish Dragon P. I.: Midnight Cranes by Steve Zimcosky is an interesting read and a fantastic page-turner. The plot was unique, and all the characters were well developed. I loved the unpredictability of the storyline, as the plot twist would shock anyone. The book maintained a consistently fast pace that kept my adrenalin pumping. Another thing I enjoyed was the writing style, which was partly conversational and partly reportage. The sentences were crisp, had life in them, and were devoid of fluff. Dialogues flowed seamlessly, and the novel was professionally edited. It’s also worthy to note that this book will appeal to lovers of detective and spy stories. I feel like Suzie deserves more credit for her contributions and a shot at working full time with Tom. Steve has written a beautiful book!

Polish Dragon P.I. (Midnight Cranes) is a short mystery book by Steve Zimcosky. Private investigator Tom Sipowicz has just returned from his last excursion and is hoping for a short break. But the president of a manufacturing company wants a private investigation into the deaths of two workers at his plant. Sipowicz gets hired at the plant, MaGed Material Handling, as a low-level laborer so he can probe into the situation. Does anyone know anything about these deaths? What about the mysterious defective parts that keep coming from the parent company in Germany every few months? It isn’t long before he finds out there’s a lot of truth to be discovered at this seemingly ordinary place full of cranes, welders, and secrets.

A brisk and easy-to-read sleuth mystery, Polish Dragon P.I. (Midnight Cranes) is a delight. It has a lot of fascinating details of work in a factory, plus a nice mix of characters as Tom goes about his rounds pretending to be employed at MaGed while really finding some adventure in an engaging action story. Steve Zimcosky has written a great book for readers who enjoy reading plausible and realistic stories. Events are really well foreshadowed—I didn’t guess who the main villains in the plant were when they were introduced, yet later it lined up with the way they were shown at first. The gradually building threads of Tom’s dealings on a tight time deadline with various investigative agents, a quirky night-owl chemist, a funny female sidekick, and a shady drug dealer known as the Ghost kept me on my toes right until the end. Very entertaining story, with good execution of the mystery elements, unique plotting that hinges on a rare foreign language, and a charming hero.

The author this time has outdone himself. This book is full of suspense and I wanted to keep reading to see what was going to happen. It was also full of intriguing information.

This time he’s asked to help solve a couple of deaths at an international company that specializes in building hardware. The president isn’t satisfied with the official report by the authorities, and Tom is recommended to him. Instead of his usual methods, Tom is asked to go undercover so he can better assess and observe those at the warehouse, knowing that at least one of them is potentially responsible for the deaths. This provides for an entertaining narrative twist that puts the P.I. in different situations. Along the way, Zimcosky does an excellent job of fully immersing the reader in the environment Tom is living and working in. The plot moves fast even with lots of details given to the reader throughout the story.

Like the other books in this series, Midnight Cranes is a fun and quick read. Tom is the kind of character that is instantly likeable and seems to be capable of just about anything; a trait that provides him with his many adventures. The quick references to past books makes everyone seem more relatable and familiar, which makes the book even more enjoyable.

Midnight Cranes is the perfect book for some light and fun reading that delivers intrigue and entertainment on par with a full-length novel but Zimcosky does it in under 90 pages. This is a book that will excite long-time fans of the series as they’ll find the tried and true protagonist in new situations, but new readers will enjoy the easy story and alluring mystery.

This is an exciting read! Set aside some time as you will find it hard to put the book down. Wonderful suspense and interesting characters. This author’s books are always worth reading.
