Portent is a work of fiction in the historical fiction, fantasy adventure, and interpersonal drama subgenres. It serves as the fourth installment in the Three-Times-Blessed book series and was penned by author Nicole Warner for the general adult reading audience. Our central pairing of Anais and Eadred is put to the test more than ever in this new section of the story when Eadred leaves for battle and becomes the hero he was born to be. Left vulnerable by his absence, Anais is shocked to discover her own repertoire of talents is still growing, with the potential for some powerful – and even terrible – results. Battling it all, staying together, and facing whatever fate throws at them has never been this challenging.

Author Nicole Warner knows how to deliver action, suspense, emotion, and complex social drama all at once, and this new installment of her incredible historical fantasy series will certainly not disappoint readers already following the action. Stepping into a series midway can be a tricky thing to do, but I found it very easy to immerse myself in the goings-on of this atmospheric and rich fantasy world and to understand the plot in a very short space of time indeed. Anais and Eadred make a fantastic central pairing with a good balance of contrasting and complementary traits, and I enjoyed each of their storylines just as much as individuals as when they were together. What results is a compelling fantasy tale with cinematic action and powerful emotional consequences, and overall I’d definitely recommend Portent for fans of the genre everywhere.
