Prince Julian’s pretty face and dainty features make him quite attractive, belying his arrogant and disrespectful nature. Although his cruel words cause most ladies to dissolve into tears, Liliana Almwick is not one of them. As a strong-willed woman, Liliana demands that the prince should be punished for his abominable conduct. Her mother Satiana, a great sorceress, turns the prince into a female to make him understand the predicaments that the so-called ‘fair sex’ often has to endure. Julian must undertake a quest as Princess Juliane to procure the remedy that can return him to his true form. Prince(ss): A Fair(l)y (Odd) Tale by Sara Gravatt-Wimsatt recounts his perilous journey, with Liliana as his sole companion and advisor.

The novel boasts a clever plot full of unexpected twists. Sara Gravatt-Wimsatt’s masterful storytelling takes us on an unforgettable expedition through enchanted forests teeming with folkloric creatures, misguiding fairies, and wicked sorceresses. The dangerous escapades repeatedly test the duo’s bravery, wit, and morality. At the same time, the author explores the sexualities and true identities of the characters. Some characters identify as females despite being born with a male figure. Some defy the established categories of being either male or female and insist on being “they.” The author describes countless examples of romantic endeavors between the characters, irrespective of their genders, without ever being erotic. In this wholesome read, everyone respects everyone’s wishes and accepts their choices without judgment. Prince(ss): A Fair(l)y (Odd) Tale thus conveys a profound message to readers - we should embrace our true selves without paying heed to societal norms.
