Kristi Shimada's Princess Serafina series follows Serafina the Princess of Lilia on her quest to find acceptance and friendship when she discovers that she is different from the rest of her kind, a being who is half Fairy and half Angel known as a FaeAngel. Princess Serafina and the Wings of Heaven is the third book and follows Serafina as she’s whisked away by Mirabella, the winged unicorn, to attend the Academy of FaeAngels in the mystical land of Evermist. There she learns more about who she is and what powers her unique wings hold. On her first day, Serafina meets two other FaeAngels, Lara of Polaris and Rose of Alpha Centauri. Almost immediately after meeting the two girls, Serafina is aware of the dull energy that seems to surround Lara and points to sadness, from the tone in her voice to the decorations in her room. Serafina and Rose soon become concerned and set out to help their new friend.

Straightforward and short, this 40-page book is great for any youngster, especially those who enjoy stories being read to them before bedtime. The illustrations by Eko Setiawan are vivid as well as beautiful and perfectly indicate what we can expect in each chapter. Be it adult or child, it’s easy to appreciate the simplicity of the plot as everything is well explained and easy to understand, which young readers are bound to appreciate. The characters are also uncomplicated, and their personalities are quite easy to deduce. The book is fast-paced but also somehow manages to be relaxing at the same time. Kristi Shimada has a knack for explaining events in just a few words. I would like to read the first two books in the series, Princess Serafina and the Mystical Unicorn and Princess Serafina and the Jeweled Circle.
