Author Biography

Lisa Ayotte, an educator in CT, loves finding ways to make reading easier and fun for children. She believes kids learn best when they can visualize and make connections to what they read. And when something is funny to them, even better!
Lisa decided to create her "Peeps" as unique and diverse as the students she's taught over her many years as an elementary school teacher. She enjoys designing each scene, adding small details as she goes, to capture the reader's attention and help them focus on the "little" things. Find out more at: punnypeeps.com

Fifth in a series of books about the Punny Peeps, Punny Jokes to Tell Your Peeps! by Lisa Ayotte contains 32 puns that are each illustrated by a full-color photograph reflecting the meaning of the pun in relation to these funny little creatures, all set within an appropriate context. For instance, an animal-related pun goes: “Peep 1: What kind of burger is a fly’s favorite? Peep 2: A humburger!” Above the pun is a photo of the two peeps sitting down to eat a meal in a restaurant together with a fly (with all three creatures being approximately the same size). On the wall above hangs a colorful sign showing “Today’s Menu: Burgers and Flies.” The humor is clear and the entire picture and pun comprise a pleasing whole. Times this by 32 and you have a winner!

Lisa Ayotte’s intentions are so patently clear, as far as making learning fun, that Punny Jokes to Tell Your Peeps! (Book 5) is a delight for both educators and learners. An ideal text for an early learning classroom, the whole collection of Punny Peeps books could readily form part of a class’s resource material collection. The pages are so refreshing and stimulating, with their combination of text and picture that, enlarged, they could form useful posters for the walls. The detail in each photo (for example, a potted tree on a side table is included in the joke described above, so as to make the shot more visually pleasing) makes you realize the great care with which Ayotte assembles her books. A thoroughly entertaining collection of “punny jokes,” and one not to be missed!

Do you know that feeling you get when a young one asks you if you want to hear a joke? You stifle a yawn while you ponder how you might act surprised when you are faced with hearing, yet again, an age-old one-liner. Well, that will not be the situation you face if the little one who approaches you has a copy of Punny Jokes to Tell Your Peeps, Book 5. In it, Lisa Ayotte has provided over 30 new one-liner jokes that are sure to get a laugh out of people, young and old. Accompanied by photos that set out elaborate lifelike scenes made of myriad objects, these original punny jokes will be easy for children to remember and to recall when a good chuckle is in order.

I very much enjoyed that Lisa Ayotte has created a whole slew of new material for young ones. One of my favorites is: What is a trombone’s favorite thing at the park? Why that would be, “The slide!” of course. Or can you guess the answer to this one: “What do frogs like to eat at the beach?” The answer, “Hopsicles” should be obvious, but like any good joke, it is not. Some more of my personal favorites include: “Why couldn’t the pirate learn all the letters in the alphabet?” and “What kind of house weighs the least?” and “Why did the mouse take a bath?” But I won’t ruin the fun for you. Rather, I’ll suggest you pick up a copy of Punny Jokes to Tell Your Peeps, Book 5, to find for yourself, the answers to these and many more great one-liners.

My favorite jokes are the animal jokes and also the pirate one. They are so brilliantly simple and straight to the point. The wordplay is so ingenious, I truly applaud the author for coming up with all of it. The entire book is genuine, wonderfully silly, and hilarious.
