Written from three points of view, personal, team and corporate, Purpose: The Extraordinary Benefits of Focusing on What Matters Most by Ben Renshaw offers essential advice on what encompasses the guiding element called purpose. According to Renshaw, purpose is what steers and really gives fulfillment and joy to every person or group of people. Renshaw not only guides readers on identifying one’s purpose but also gives advice on how purpose can be put into action. He also notes the importance of finding fulfillment in helping others, defining what matters most, and the paramount role that a sense of community has both in the personal and corporate worlds. Other factors that play an important role in helping people identify their purpose are also included such as flexibility and the consideration that purpose means something different to different people.

Ben Renshaw matches his words with models, questions, tables and diagrams which make the information much more impactful and easy to remember. Every topic is well presented with each chapter containing a sprinkling of different engaging stories. Even in its brevity, the book is very comprehensive as it involves different aspects of life ranging from personal to career life. Renshaw touches on so many elements that feed into purpose and shares the many benefits that come with defining our “why”. In an age where a corporate purpose in many organizations has been challenged and, in various instances, has lost its meaning, Renshaw shows where the gaps exist and how they can be bridged. Purpose is insightful as it offers guidance on how to live a meaningful and fulfilling life, build passion within teams, and foster collaboration to achieve goals in a corporate set-up.
