Author Biography

An optometrist of over 35 years in Sherman, Texas—a stone’s throw from Oklahoma—I’m a former contributor of articles and photos to Texoma Living! Magazine. Proudly, my previous two paranormal thrillers, Face of the Bell Witch and its sequel, El Coronel, are both multi-award winners. Reach is my first foray into the romance genre, and my second wife of fourteen years, Debbie, is convinced I’ve found my proper niche. A transplanted Texan by way of Sunshine State upbringing, I am heavily biased toward the arts, dabbling in photography and music composition. I’ve also enjoyed numerous roles in local community theater productions. Debbie and I are like The Brady Bunch minus Alice—six children and the ever-growing brood of sixteen grandkids. Oh, and how could I ever forget our ferocious, precocious fur baby, Chloe, the snow-white Coton?

Reach: A Nexus Of Life And Love by Jerry Gundersheimer is an emotional, tear-jerker about love and life. Ernie Resnick fell in love with Ava Winkler when he was 11 years old. Her blue eyes drew him in, and before he knew it, they were madly in love with each other. While Ava chased her dream of becoming a prima ballerina, Ernie became a best-selling author. Ernie expected a picture-perfect ending, but that wasn’t what transpired. His whole world shattered to pieces when Ava was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. Watching the woman he loved lose a part of herself to the disease, Ernie was conflicted by what lay ahead.

I was not ready for the tears and the emotional upheaval this story caused me. Even though Jerry Gundersheimer prepared his readers with the advance blurb for Reach, I was still not ready for the heartache, although I loved it. That final scene of Ava and Ernie was devastating. This a perfect salute to caregivers who put their lives on hold to care for their loved ones. The little snippets of Ernie’s journals were a great insight into how hard it was to take care of his wife and how it took a toll on his mental health. It got very emotional for me when Ernie recognized his symptoms and was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The narrative was so powerfully lovely that I had a hard time controlling my emotions. The pace was perfect, and the chemistry between Ava and Ernie was remarkable and made me feel like a part of their story!
