In Reconstructing Reality: Outsmarting The Brain To Rewrite Our Life Stories, Amy L. Rosner shows how our brains are always doing their best to protect us from so much, including trauma, stress, pain, and fear. Sometimes, this can cause us to overreact to certain situations. Amy helps seven-year-old Jake overcome his fears so that he can enjoy a family vacation and helps a woman discover that driving doesn’t have to be a frightening experience. As hard as it may be to believe, even having problems losing weight can be caused by our brains. Fear and anxiety are very real things that can inhibit the way we enjoy the world around us.

Reconstructing Reality is an educational and inspiring book that gave me a lot of interesting insight into the human psyche and how the mind and body work. I enjoyed reading about the different ways Rosner helped others overcome fears so effectively. I find it amazing that her patients left the sessions feeling more secure and excited about making progress by discovering ways to understand where the fears come from, how to cope with them, and how to face them safely. The best thing about this book, besides the invaluable information, is the way the author gave the information without using a lot of complex terminology, which makes this book easy to understand and learn from. I recommend Reconstructing Reality by Amy L. Rosner to anyone who wants to know more about how the conscious and subconscious influence the things that we think and feel and gain some positive insight into how to cope with fear and anxiety.

Like many people, I have often struggled with anxiety and found only temporary relief in prescription drugs or cognitive behavioral therapies. As a result, I am always eager to read books that explore alternative means of relieving anxiety so that I might live a fuller life. Reconstructing Reality: Outsmarting the Brain to Rewrite Our Life Stories is one such book. In it, author Amy L. Rosner argues that many health issues, ranging from anxiety to post-traumatic stress disorder to pain relief, can be better treated by tapping into the unconscious mind through hypnotherapy, rather than by more traditional techniques such as medication or psychotherapy. As a practicing hypnotherapist trained in neuroscience, Rosner offers compelling evidence based upon numerous case studies that hypnotherapy can bypass conscious thought to allow our brains to rescript our memories, helping us live happier and more productive lives.

What I appreciated the most about Reconstructing Reality is Amy L. Rosner’s ability to explain difficult concepts of cognition engagingly and straightforwardly. For instance, she lays the groundwork for her discussion of hypnotherapy by describing fascinating research about the left brain which controls language and linear reasoning, and the right brain which is more intuitive and holistic in its thinking. Another strength of the book is the author’s willingness to address concerns with hypnosis, especially regression therapy which asks a patient to relive a traumatic event. Rosner makes clear that responsible therapists do not ask patients to relive traumatic events but rather observe them like “a fly on the wall” to better understand the impact on their lives. All in all, I found Reconstructing Reality an inspirational read, so much so that I researched some self-hypnosis techniques to help in my quest for better mental health.

Amy L. Rosner has been studying the physical brain events related to thoughts and emotions and how altering them can impact us psychologically and physically. Over the past ten years, she has developed techniques that people can use to tap into their brains and rewrite their stories. In her book Reconstructing Reality: Outsmarting the Brain to Rewrite Our Life Stories, she discusses these techniques, which involve hypnotherapy, showcasing its transformative power and debunking misconceptions about it. The author provides multiple examples of her clients, explaining their problems and how she helped them overcome these issues. She talks about unconscious blocks, how the brain hemispheres work, neuroplasticity, imagery, visualization, how to discover the root cause of issues, and how hypnosis works.

Reconstructing Reality is an informative book that delves into hypnotherapy, a subject that is often misunderstood and avoided today. Amy L. Rosner explains various aspects of this therapeutic practice, highlighting its benefits and showcasing her knowledge and passion for the topic. The book cites several examples of how hypnotherapy assisted Rosner's clients in quitting smoking, overcoming their fears, and healing physical pain. The author also shares her experiences visiting France and her love for art, offering a glimpse into her life and how the brain processes different experiences. Her use of simple words and familiar anecdotes makes it easy to understand the concepts and terminology, and the book is visually appealing to read due to its intriguing book cover and consistent format. I found Reconstructing Reality to be an enjoyable and enlightening book, providing me with a better understanding of an often overlooked topic. I recommend this book to anyone interested in hypnotherapy and how it can be used to reconstruct memories and improve one's overall well-being.

Reconstructing Reality: Outsmarting the Brain to Rewrite Our Life Stories by Amy L. Rosner is a non-fiction medical/health book. Amy uses science to explain the difference between your conscious brain vs. your unconscious brain. She uses her trips to France as a backdrop to explain how she got into hypnotic therapy. She explains how hypnosis can help tap into the unconscious to help you heal. Amy uses case studies to show how hypnosis helped them. She also talks about how hypnosis can help. She explains why people are afraid of it and why they shouldn't be.

I thought that Reconstructing Reality by Amy L. Rosner was a real eye-opener. I loved that she uses science but explains it so that the scientifically challenged, like me, can understand. I loved how Amy explained that you can use hypnosis instead of medicine or with medicine, but she is not anti-medicine, and that was refreshing. I also loved that she explained why you shouldn't be afraid, and she turned this skeptic into a believer. The four-word brain hack gave me an 'aha' moment, and I plan on trying that now. When Amy discussed why we need negatives in our lives, that was the first time it made sense to me. I also loved the case studies; they made everything more relatable. If you have ever wondered about hypnosis, or you need another type of therapy to help, I highly recommend this book. If you're a skeptic like me, she just might change your mind.
