Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories by an author who goes by K is a short story collection that shows off K's astounding power and acrobatic talent as a writer. It seems K can do it all, and the proof lies in these twelve stories’ diversity of subject and style. A graduate study project might be to find the common link in all of them, and the search might begin in the title with the word “love” and all its manifestations. Take, for instance, the first story “Radius” in which a Palestinian man sets out one morning for a simple meeting in Jerusalem, and his mind works overtime with every nuance of his senses. He loves his homeland and his people, and we soon find out why his immediate awareness is so intensely activated. Or the second with its silly teenage sex talk and its underlying rampant desires. Or the later rewrite of Virgil’s “Orpheus and Eurydice” with its much more satisfying ending.

Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories by K is unabashed literature for readers up for a challenge of meaning wrapped in the soaring beauty of language. It is a tour de force of word art and storytelling. My favorites are the more accessible and less metaphorical, especially “Head Down,” in which a happily married man meets “the love of his life” at an IT conference for his work. In its dramatic simplicity, the story demonstrates the author’s comfort with and mastery of direct dialogue and precise detail. But if your bag happens to be pure allegory, have a look at the astounding futuristic 2073 and the metaphor of war-wound death in “Wolf.” I ventured into every piece and without fail discovered K's phenomenally joyous understanding of the heights and horrors of human existence. Writing does not come any better than this.

Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories by K is a collection of short stories that share the common theme of love. Each tale is written in deep detail and varies from romance to forbidden desire. While the theme is the same, each story is vastly different in its characters and situations. Radius and The Invitation were extremely complex, and the dialogue between the characters caused me to think about the seriousness of the characters. Wolf and The Dog Whistle involved fantasy characters and hallucinations but one was extremely violent while the other was more serene. Calamity Jane is my personal favorite. The characters were relatable and the witty remarks made throughout made it an easy story. The high school classic story of a best friend's girlfriend being a secret crush of his buddy, and she was completely aware of it.

I enjoyed most of K's Resistance, Revolution And Other Love Stories. Unlike many short story collections that I have read, each tale had a fully developed main character and a complete plot from start to finish. The format of the order of the stories was interesting; a deep complex puzzling story was followed by an easy-going one, allowing my mind a recovery period. The underlying love theme was not always easy to detect, but this added to the suspense. This book would be better suited for people that like to solve mental puzzles. There are several explicit scenarios and profanities in some of the stories. The pace in several of the stories was a bit slow.

Love is one of the most powerful emotions experienced by mankind. Throughout history, love has caused the greatest happiness or the most unfortunate sadness and can induce uncharacteristic behavior. In Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories by K, a compilation of twelve short stories, the characters experience the many aspects of love. Including, a blind girl verbally and emotionally abused by her mother who must battle with her own feelings of self-doubt in order to express the love she feels, a teenage boy drawn to the girlfriend of his best friend, a married man who becomes entangled in a relationship that he is willing to risk everything for, and a modern-day twist on the mythical tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. The collection uncovers the importance of trust, gratitude, and living life to the fullest. There is also a reminder that life is precious. We are all traveling our own unique journey in life to fulfill our true calling and must take heed of our intuition and inner dialogue.

This collection of short stories evokes many thoughts regarding human behavior and how powerful the emotion of love can be. Throughout each plot, we are reminded that love can make us change our perspective on what is morally right regarding behavior, thoughts, and actions. This is especially apparent in Head Down. Each of the stories had such believable three-dimensional characters and the relationships between them were developed perfectly. To write a short story with so much depth, layers of interest, action, and tension was admirable. The twists and turns reminded me of a Roal Dahl style of writing where anything is possible. I loved the eclectic mix of genres too; every story brought something special to the collection. From sci-fi, military, fables, love stories, and coming of age themes, each tale was uniquely compelling and superbly written. I loved especially how K allowed the reader to make their own judgments regarding the character's behavior. Were their actions right or wrong? I feel every reader would come to their own conclusion based upon their moral compass.

Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories is a collection of twelve short stories written by the author known as K. K's riveting stories differ wildly in terms of concept, ideas, and genres and delve deep into the nature of human relationships and the purpose and ultimate meaning of life. A recurring theme that seems to be explored throughout the stories is love and its complexities that make life truly worth living. There is a story titled "The Dog Whistle" that is told from the perspective of a dog where the author masterfully narrates its thought process and feelings towards its master. K explores themes via a spectrum of genres, such as dystopian, romance, drama, sci-fi, and even fantasy, and makes every single one of them entertaining to read.

Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories is an enthralling collection of stories that feel surreal, introspective and philosophical, and at times bittersweet. Some of the stories follow a standard narrative structure and plot that culminates in an unpredictable twist towards the climax. The characters feel relatable and realistic, and the author provides them with a level of depth that make them come alive through the pages. The prose is beautiful and mesmerizing to read, and I think it's one of the primary reasons why the narrative felt so absorbing. Although I enjoyed every story, Calamity Jane, Automatonomatopoecia, and Head Down were my personal favorites of the bunch. Altogether, I found Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories to be a fascinating read, and I highly recommend it.

Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories by K is a collection of twelve short stories all possessing a spirit of love that makes it the most revolutionizing act of all. Two of them, Radius and Vikings, have been previously published in two reputable literary publications—a hallmark upon which a serious fiction writer’s reputation rests. The collection consists of the profound, calm introspection in K’s universe that showcases an unlimited range of imagination. They do not fall into any specific genre, for to do so would be limiting, but what they do share is love at the core of their plots. It is a world where you encounter two love-stricken teenage boys under the inescapable grasp of a bitchy girl. You get to join Orpheus once again as he descends into Hades to see his wife, Eurydice. An automaton model LV-426 becomes a true friend to the human it serves. A dog narrates how he and his fellow canines become a united resistance in not responding to a whistle.

K’s language is powerful and provocative largely due to how it explores the existential power of love. The prose flows like a calm river in spring. It has precise diction and harmonious syntax that makes reading these stories such a comfort. You cannot help but feel moved by K’s masterful word painting that gives you an emotional reward for the evocative images they build. There is so much in it for the characters as well as they leap out of the pages with their relatable angst and struggles that we have all experienced. Read Resistance, Revolution and Other Love Stories by K and let each story unfold to get that immersive experience that you need to rekindle your affirmation of love and life.
