In these days of rampant turmoil and uncertainty, Yvonne M. Morgan’s Rest in God: A Prayer Journal with 100 Prayers and Scriptures for Daily Needs comes like a healing balm to the soul and like a soporific to the anxious heart. Morgan’s personal experience, both as a mother and grandmother and as founder of the Orphan Relief Effort for Nepal and Myanmar, has led her on an ever closer journey to God. The Prayer Journal focuses on relieving the spiritual suffering of those of the Christian faith, with daily prayers revolving around short excerpts from the Bible, and focusing on such reassuring themes as comfort, guidance and harmony. In addition, the author provides the texts of specific prayers that come from various Christian denominations, and which include the Catholic Prayer, St. Patrick’s Prayer for strength and John Wesley’s Covenant Prayer.

Yvonne M. Morgan’s multicultural experience comes to the fore in Rest in God: A Prayer Journal with 100 Prayers and Scriptures for Daily Needs—she clearly has wide-reaching compassion for, and empathy with, Christian believers across the globe. I especially love the way in which she encourages the believer in their personal journey with God. By leaving open sufficient space after each prayer and reading for the diarist to develop their own prayers, and to record how they have been answered, Morgan promotes the strengthening of individual faith and the burgeoning of a joyful spirit of thanks. Truly, this is a journal well worth acquiring, no matter whether you’re at the start of your journey with Christ, or a believer with many years’ experience, but who sometimes falters and doubts.

Rest in God by Yvonne M Morgan is a Christian devotional journal for those looking for inspiration during prayer and scripture to bridge the gap between what we want to say in prayer and finding the words to most effectively say it. This is a fairly straightforward compilation wherein Morgan provides prayer guidance for multiple situations, including prayers for guidance when we feel ourselves straying from a Christ-like path or find ourselves lost, bedtime prayers for children to strengthen the bond with the youngest of God's flock, and prayers for a heart that yearns to serve God in the manner He prescribes, among many others. Each prayer is accompanied by a connected scripture and journal pages to document the prayer itself and how it was answered.

The version of Rest in God that I first picked up was an ebook version and initially I was concerned that I may not be able to fully employ what Yvonne M Morgan has created for us in this particular format. This changed a bit when I was on the London Underground and was seated beyond the recommended six feet away from a gentleman with a cough, and I was momentarily uneasy. These are unique times as we grapple with an earthly pandemic and the ability to reach into my bag and find a prayer for helping us live in harmony with one another through the story of the Good Samaritan, loving those who are placed in our path. When I arrived home I was able to refer to the printed version of my journal and allow myself to write of the calm that came over me, how a situation of discomfort and its after-effects are entirely in the hands of God, and push the experience to the back of my mind with a grateful heart. Wherever you are in your journey, this book comes very highly recommended.

Rest in God: A Prayer Journal With 100 Prayers and Scriptures for Daily Needs by Yvonne M Morgan is an uplifting collection of prayers and scriptures. As the title suggests, it shows readers how to rest in God through difficult times and why it is important to develop a devotional life through prayer and meditation. The book will take readers on a new adventure with God and will be a treasured keepsake and testimony of their faith. The author gives the right words for readers to use for their prayers and develop their own prayer patterns. There are also scriptural references to encourage readers in their prayer life. This prayer journal is an excellent guide that will help readers form their own connection with God so that they can find comfort during difficult times.

The approach to the topic is novel and interactive, and Yvonne M Morgan pulls in readers to participate in the journaling activities so that they are not discouraged during their times of adversities and struggles. I love the spaces left for 'My Prayers' and 'Answered Prayers'; it will help readers strengthen their faith and trust in the power of God. Rest in God is good to own and use in Bible classes to help readers understand the power and presence of God in their lives. The thought of having a scripture with every prayer is indeed a good way to find the guidance they have been looking for. Yvonne M Morgan makes praying and prayers simple and easy to incorporate into daily life through this book, and it will encourage and motivate readers to continuously look for the Lord's guidance while facing difficult situations in life.
