Charity Tober’s Rise of the Sidekicks has left me imagining what the Avengers might have been like in their pre-teen years. All Ethan Parker wants is to get into the Justice Academy and one day be a part of the Nexus Guardians. However, he quickly starts noticing that the Service Bots are acting strangely, plus their eyes are a deep shade of red. A new danger threatens the city, and some people have been hypnotized. Eerily enough, the only people being hypnotized are the ones without super abilities, but why is that? A new villain has taken over the city and stripped the superheroes of their powers using metal cuffs on their wrists. Will Ethan defeat this new villain, reclaim his city, and restore the superheroes' abilities? With the Rise of the Sidekicks, anything is possible.

I am the biggest nerd when it comes to anything superhero. I am a huge Marvel and DC fan, so, Rise of the Sidekicks jumped out at me. The storyline kept me intrigued and wanting to read more. I would like to see a series come out of this story like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. It is fast-paced and full of adventure and action, just like a superhero novel should be. Charity Tober was creative and imaginative when coming up with each character's different superpowers. I liked the little backstory for each character. Ethan is well-developed, and I enjoyed seeing his growth and the difficult decisions he had to make as a kid. I loved the illustrations of the main superhero sidekicks; it helped me imagine precisely what they looked like, which was a great bonus. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
