Risk A Verse: A Year in Daily Sonnets is a poetic work of memoir written by poet and author Libby Weber. This publication comes as a result of the San Diego-based writer and musician putting a challenge to herself to compose a sonnet which encompasses every day of her year. In writing these fourteen-line poems to record and experience every day of her life, Weber has created a memoir that travels through the full gamut of the human experience and the whole range of emotions. With fascinating insights into her life outside writing and her connections to the entertainment world, the collection records an exciting life in a unique and entertaining way.

Reading a memoir in the form of sonnets really does provide a unique experience to the reader, and I enjoyed the notes and anecdotes which accompanied and explained the context for the poetic works. Author Libby Weber has a vivacious personality which comes across in her inventive and amusing use of words, and her life experiences as a musician and her reflections upon them were really entertaining to read. The poetic accomplishment is, in itself, a wonder when you look back over the collection, and I was impressed by the variety of emotional content that expressed a flair and range of skill. Overall, Risk A Verse: A Year in Daily Sonnets chronicles a unique challenge on the part of Libby Weber, which results in an engaging experience for all readers and an insight into a true life account.
