Imagine living in an 11 x 11 foot room for seven years. The only connection to the outdoors is a skylight above your head, and the only connection to the world a small TV. There are no windows, and the only door is locked continually, unless "Old Nick" comes. Now imagine sharing that room with her active five year old son, Jack.

To Jack that "Room" is the world, but to his Ma...it is a place that she considers her prison. Their world is controlled by "Old Nick", if he gets upset with Ma, "Old Nick" takes away their Sunday treat, food, and even the heat to keep them warm!

Ma feels the world they live in is closing in on them. It's no place to raise a child, especially since Jack is 5 now, and beginning to question their experiences. She hides Jack away from "Old Nick" and Jack wonders why, and what "Old Nick" does when he comes at night. Ma has endured enough abuse by this man, and tries to figure a way to get out!

The story is told through the eyes of a child. Jack tells us what life in "Room" is like, and talks about Ma's plans to escape, which makes him upset and nervous. He can't phantom what outside is...all he has ever seen of it comes from TV, and doesn't seem real!

This heart-wrenching story tells us about a mother's love for her child, and how that love helps them to conquer Ma's fear of "Old Nick", and satisfies her desire for a normal life for her wonderful son Jack.

This is a book that very vividly describes what life after being abducted can be like. This isn't a story you will read and just forget about...you will think of this story for a long time to come! You won't want to put it down until you are completely finished.

I rate this book a 5+ out of 5!!
