Samson: The Wrath of God is an intense work of historical fiction with Christian themes and plenty of suspense, penned by author W. K. Leslie. Subtitled “I’m not who you think I am”, the work contains graphic scenes of violence amid its intriguing and somewhat dark plot. As the title suggests, we follow the figure of Samson, who has supernatural strength given to him by God in order to fulfill his mission to save people from oppression. But Samson’s life is fraught with suffering, imprisonment, and betrayal from beginning to end, and we follow his many trials as he continues to try to serve his purpose given before his birth.

Author W. K. Leslie brings blockbuster to the biblical in this fantastic historical novel based on Christian stories. There’s a great deal of respect shown to the intentions of the original Bible story, but the wider plot that develops around it is emotive, atmospheric and placed in real history to make us feel it rather than simply being told a chain of events. I especially appreciated the close narration of Samson and the psychological pressure of his God-given purpose, which seemed entirely realistic and relatable as a hero figure despite a great many of his deeds. Overall, I would certainly recommend Samson: The Wrath of God not only to fans of Christian-themed historical works, but to all readers who enjoy an intense action/adventure set in times of struggle, and to those who seek talented and innovative new authors to fall for.
