Nanu the polar bear lived in a peaceful little village in the vast open Arctic. Nanu loved seals and he knew it was time to go hunting when his stomach rumbled. Every year the earth got warmer and it was difficult for Nanu to find food so slowly he learned how to fish. Fish did not fill his belly like the seals did and it was difficult to catch fish. Nanu was hungry and sad as he fell asleep on the ice floe. He dreamed there were lots of fish to eat and realized that everything was connected. He understood that without ice algae would not grow underneath and no algae meant no fish food. Without fish, the seals were hungry and that meant Nanu had no food too. With the ice melting, the ships came to drill for oil and made everything dirty and noisy. Nanu saw a pod of whales jump and dive, and he decided to join them, hoping to find food. He met Toklo the whale, who introduced him to his good friend Ahnah who lived in the village there. Ahnah told her grandma about the problems faced by Nanu, the other bears, and the whales. Would they be able to help these animals and save their lives?
