He had no memories. He didn’t have an identity either. Even a name—as fundamental as it is—was out of the question, so they called him Kid. Everything was lost in the void within him. Rising from the ashes of his family home, only his instincts were there to guide him. And guide him they did—to the Haladays, then the Harrisons. But Kid forged on despite his amnesia and migrated with them to the Conejos area of Colorado. However, as they adapted to life on their newly established Double H ranch, trouble came again. Kid discovered a treasure trove near their new home, but it didn’t make life easier. Instead, it made them targets and turned their friends into foes. The two families have always held their own, but they know they must outsmart their much more experienced and organized enemies. Otherwise, they’ll meet the same fate as Kid’s previous family. Join Quinn O. Heder on A Search for Yesterday and find out what really happened.

Search For Yesterday by Quinn O. Heder is a western and coming-of-age-themed novel that whips up the reader’s emotions. It takes you on a rollercoaster of feelings like tenderness, rage, admiration, pity, and hate. Exciting and easy to read, I didn’t want it to end and wished it were longer. Although it was narrated from the first-person point of view, the author effectively conveyed the emotions of other characters apart from the protagonist. Somehow, this novel made me feel euphoric, and I couldn’t shake it off. I instinctively knew that I had stumbled upon a gem, and I'd recommend it wholeheartedly.

Search for Yesterday is one of those classic books you want to stock your shelves with and keep for your children. The pacing was just right, and the action sequences were even better. Even though I usually don’t care for lengthy descriptions of the setting, Quinn sneaked past me on this one, and I loved it because the scenery had a direct impact on the story. Search for Yesterday will elicit rave reviews from people who like westerns and emotionally engaging tales.

Search For Yesterday: Second Edition is a work of fiction in the western, action, and adventure subgenres. It is suitable for mature young adult and adult reading audiences and was penned by author Quinn O. Heder. Set in America during the late 1860s, we find ourselves with a nameless protagonist who awakens from a terrifying massacre with no memory of how or why he has survived it. He is taken in by two kind families heading out to Colorado to forge a new life, and they nickname him “Kid”. So begins an emotional coming of age story as Kid attempts to reconcile his past with his present, and perhaps even dream of a prosperous future with love and happiness at last.

Author Quinn O. Heder offers a wide array of impressive elements in this immersive historical adventure, all of which are perfectly placed to deliver a concise but action-packed tale of forging a new life against impossible odds. I was particularly impressed by the use of dialogue in the work, which gave an authentic western flavor to the characters but was also really inventively used to move the plot along without bogging it down in heavy prose or backstory. As a central protagonist, Kid offers readers an exciting ongoing mystery as to his true origin and identity and is penned with empathetic narration to endear us to his flaws just as much as his triumphs. Another feature that I really enjoyed is the inclusion of just the right amount of atmospheric detail to give an immersive and cinematic sense of history, which will really help readers lose themselves in the adventure. Overall, I would certainly recommend Search For Yesterday to fans of immersive and emotional coming-of-age tales as well as readers who enjoy detailed, fast-paced westerns.

A young boy — Kid — finds himself awake in a burning house with no shred of recollection as to how he ended up there. Soon, in an attempt to escape bears and regain his memory, he stumbles on the Halladays, a lovely family migrating to the Colorados. With the Halladays and their family friends, the Harrisons, Kid wrestles with the ruthless ordeals of the new territory, encountering harsh weather and menacing outlaws. Making friends and enemies along the way, they learn to adjust and adapt to their new environment, while Kid tries to piece together the memories of his past as they come to him in flashes and dreams. With the discovery of forgotten treasure near their new settlement, Kid and his new family fight to keep all they have worked for, as the effects of greed and betrayal try to take it all from them.

Search for Yesterday is a perfect blend of historical and young adult fiction with a touch of romance and adventure. I found Kid's nervous reaction around young ladies very endearing. And anyone who has had a hard time fighting their nerves around someone they find attractive will relate to his character. I also found the romantic tension between Kid and the girls very delightful. Author Quinn O. Heder did a great job in creating and portraying relatable characters with a narration style that is appealing and fantastic. He sheds light on an interesting time in American history, featuring the wild wide west with its outlaws and animals. He also gives readers great visual descriptions and enthralling characterization with perfectly crafted narration.

Search for Yesterday is a Western by Quinn O. Heder. The protagonist woke up to a horrifying scene, a house engulfed in flames and about to collapse at any second. He managed to escape the inferno unscathed, save for his loss of memories due to amnesia. He was confused and had no idea why he was in the burning house or who the rotting corpses were to him. After days of living off the land, he finally decided to set off into the unknown world, alone and not sure of who he was. During his journey of self-discovery, he meets the Halladay family, ranchers that give him a place to belong and a name, “Kid.” Kid devoted himself to helping the Halladays around the ranch, out hunting, or doing odd errands for his newfound family. During a ride on his trusted steed, he stumbles upon a curious sight and finds a gold nugget in an unexplored region. Kid's discoveries, however, may very well lead to the end of his newfound family; he could lose it all again if he's not careful.

I had fun reading Search for Yesterday and was thoroughly entertained. What I liked most were the multiple points of interest spread throughout the story. Each was a good reprise from the main objective of Kid regaining his memories and demonstrated some splendid world-building from Quinn O. Heder. I also love how the author kept everything grounded and relevant to the story. Looking back on the entire plot, I can't help but appreciate how the author kept the pacing constant and the way the story flowed from chapter to chapter was amazing too. The plot had its fair share of surprises and action scenes to keep me thrilled and invested. Another huge positive worth mentioning would be the characters, as they were all well-written and lovable. The love they had for each other as a family was conveyed beautifully, and their actions made me feel warm inside. To conclude, this book was well worth my time, and I have no problem recommending it to readers that enjoy a good Western.

The narrative plays up the emotions, allows readers to soak it all in and enjoy the details. Each chapter reveals something new and gives readers a glimpse inside Kid’s mind. The depiction of the 1860s feels authentic, realistic, and very vivid. Quinn O. Heder transports readers back in time with his words. Kid’s journey is harrowing, but it is entertaining without being dull or slow. Loved it!
