Self Less: Lessons Learned from a Life Devoted to Servant Leadership, in Five Acts by Len Jessup is a remarkable reflection of the true nature of unselfish leadership as the author narrates his personal experience. The book is structured in five acts and is about Jessup's journey with the audience, going through his life stages from a childhood growing up in an Italian-American working-class family to positions of leadership. Jessup highlights the transformative ability of leadership service as well as the importance of humility, empathy, and ethical decision-making to move things forward and promote collaboration among people. The epilogue reflects on his whole life's trajectory, admitting that both sacrifices and mistakes were made, and lessons learned. He emphasizes the need for lifelong learning and personal development, showing his determination to become a stronger father, a devoted spouse, and a leader who strives to achieve higher goals.

Self Less explores relevant concerns including servant leadership, lifelong learning, ethical governance, and organizational change, providing practical strategies and case studies to support the underlying theories. Len Jessup establishes and reinforces the need for selflessness and service as the major characteristics of leadership. With his engaging writing style, the author brings readers into his world and makes the most complex leadership topics easy to understand. While I was reading it, I kept reflecting on my leadership experience and discovered ways I could integrate those strategies into my day-to-day tasks. Self Less is a must-read for individuals who want to become compassionate and thoughtful leaders and are motivated to serve others.
