Jennifer Vido’s Serendipity by the Sea (The Gull Island) has a picturesque setting. Cate was happy that her grandmother had allowed her and her younger brother Jackson to stay in her vacation home. Cate joined her friends, but she ran into Knox Price, her ex-boyfriend. Knox had left Cate to pursue his career as a traveling photographer but returned to Gull Island to help his Uncle Charlie recover from hip surgery. When Cate and Knox decided to rekindle their romance, Cate’s promotion at work and Knox’s uncle prevented them from spending time together. Feeling unsettled, Knox received a phone call that could ultimately cause a repetition of the past. Knox had two dreams, but there was an inherent conflict.

The amount of tension created by Jennifer Vido was remarkable. Cate's and Jackson’s emotions are explored and smoothly transitioned. I could fully understand why Jackson became overwhelmed. His guilt over leaving Gull Island in the past prevented him from saying no to everyone. I was amazed that Cate got her promotion because she was habitually late for everything. The dialogue between the characters felt natural and relatable. I was able to fully immerse myself in the storyline, and the vivid description of the island made it easy to imagine. The author kept the suspense level high until the end and I am eager to read the sequel to this second-chance romance. I recommend Serendipity by the Sea (The Gull Island) to readers who believe in second chances and enjoy following the personal growth of two people who are opposites.
