Skin Scam: Dying to be Beautiful by Melvin L Elson is a non-fiction guide to health and fitness that focuses on cosmetic dermatology. The first few chapters include interesting discussions on the psychology of those seeking this treatment and the behind-the-scenes situation with titles like Skin Scam, Self Esteem, Who Should Touch You, and the Turf Battle. The next chapters discuss the vitamins, chemicals, acids, and sunscreen available on the market and what they do to our skin. The chapters that follow cover the more invasive procedures like mini lifts, mesotherapy, Botox, fillers, materials, microdermabrasion, liposuction, thermage, and tanning beds. We also learn about the regulations on physicians and how businesses circumvent them. The author provides his readers with the right questions to ask their dermatologists, plastic surgeons, medspa, or cosmetic salespersons and gives the real meaning behind their answers. Finally, a guide to beauty, health, and well-being is included.

Melvin L Elson’s Skin Scam is written for baby boomers and anyone considering cosmetic surgery or any kind of facial rejuvenation. The book is highly informative. Emphasizing the training necessary to perform the minimum noninvasive procedures, this book contains a wealth of information on the subject. A table of contents at the beginning would have been helpful, especially in case readers wanted to review a specific subject. As a medical practitioner with over 25 years of experience, the author is highly credible. He has also consulted with drug and cosmetic companies, developed skin care lines, done all types of research, started cosmetic companies, and even done infomercials. His personal experience is extensive and his opinions are authentic and persuasive. Highly recommended.

Cosmetic companies deceive society by promoting falsehoods. Nowadays most people live with excessive workloads, show symptoms of depression, or suffer from nutritional problems. These factors cause the body to age faster. Searching for a method to maintain a youthful appearance has become the norm, but the public needs to be well informed. Melvin L Elson is a doctor with many years of experience who uncovers the truth about skincare. Skin Scam: Dying to be Beautiful compiles information about the functions of vitamins, treatment methods, products, and their side effects, and explains in detail how marketing plays a major role in presenting misleading information. There is a quick guide at the end that summarizes the data, gives life tips for cultivating a positive attitude, and reinforces useful habits.

Skin Scam is a wonderful source of information. There is some medical terminology, such as substance names, but other than that the content is easy to understand. Melvin L Elson provides facts and anecdotes, with tips for those seeking facial treatment. He explains various procedures to demonstrate why some work while others don’t and informs readers about any side effects. He includes the necessary questions to ask when consulting a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or doctor before undergoing any cosmetic treatment or surgical procedure. My favorite section is where he warns about detecting the deception used in infomercials. He is familiar with that medium and describes it in a structured and entertaining way. This is a guide for the smart consumer that both informs and teaches how to ask the right questions.

Melvin L. Elson M.D. is such a good writer, that I read this book in one sitting. He explains the technical terms and jargon with such ease it was easy for me to understand and appreciate. I’ve looked at the large array of creams and serums on counters in the stores and with no knowledge and nowhere to start with, they were just intimidating. However, thanks to Skin Scam: Dying to be Beautiful, I know the efficacy of all the ingredients listed and the pitfalls I might run into trying to get the correct products for my face. If I could tell my younger self to read this book, I’d do it a thousand times over, but luckily it’s not too late. Skin Scam is definitely a crucial book in these modern times.

The beauty industry has seen a great increase in the number of people who want surgery or therapy to correct cosmetic issues. This has resulted in the appearance of phony dermatologists, nurses, and medical professionals, whose main goal is to take advantage of people's fears. They carry out bodily procedures that have the potential to permanently disfigure a person because they lack experience. In his book Skin Scam: Dying to be Beautiful, Melvin L. Elson seeks to educate readers about these anomalies in the skincare and cosmetics sectors to prevent them from falling victim to these con artists. He discusses the elements that affect how we look, the causes of aging, the best people to treat any skin or body issues that may arise, and the various facial and body treatments that are available.

Reading Skin Scam has numerous advantages that cannot be overstated. It is instructive, educational, informative, and eye-opening. Melvin L. Elson uses his knowledge of skincare to ensure that people are aware of the potential repercussions of their actions. This book's advice on how to evaluate the reliability and competency of any dermatologist or plastic surgeon is a key component. This will avoid later regrets. He uses straightforward language for clarity. He also includes an index so that readers may quickly find the passages that apply to them. I recommend this book to anyone who wants healthy skin or who is considering cosmetic surgery. It is an amazing and impactful book.
