The thrill of NASCAR meets futuristic aviation in the imaginative novella SkyRacers by Matt Watters. Having won the championship the preceding year, Aleeza Martin has proven herself to be an accomplished pilot in the international sport of SkyRace GP. Aleeza's sister Olivia, also a SkyRace pilot, is offered an opportunity to step out of her sister's shadow and prove herself by leading a competitor's team. Though personality differences have always existed between these two siblings, with Olivia being more reckless than her sensible sister, the bonds of family connecting them have never been severed. But could Olivia's carelessness and desire to be the best create a permanent wedge between the Martin sisters?

Although this story takes place decades into the future, Watters describes the SkyRace competition with such detail that it feels as real as any contemporary professional sports racing league. Besides explaining the logistics of setting up courses for flying race vehicles, referencing the big money that guides the sport, and exposing the intricacies of individual motivations within a team competition, there are numerous charts of scores and standings to keep readers informed and engaged. I appreciate the story's pacing, as so many unique characters and suspenseful events are packed into a relatively short book that there is never a dull moment. An exciting sci-fi tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page, SkyRacers explores intricate character relationships within the high-flying world of ultramodern aerial motorsports.

SkyRacers is a young adult drama by Matt Watters. Aleeza Martin is the World Champion pilot of the SkyRace Grand Prix series, in which racers from all over the world compete to win in the skies, risking their lives on their race pods. A freak accident involving the Division 1 pilot of the Lazzarini racing team results in the offer of a contract for Aleeza's sister Olivia, who is the pilot for the McRory Racing Team Division 2. Aleeza tries to convince her sister not to leave their team, but Olivia has her own plans and soon climbs up the Grand Prix charts to pose a serious challenge to Aleeza. Meanwhile, Aleeza suffers a wrist injury and begins a relationship. The title is on the line, but who will be the new World Champion? Will the sisters be able to mend their relationship?

SkyRacers is a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping, wild rollercoaster. Matt Watters doesn't waste a single word in taking you on an edge-of-your-seat ride that you don't want to end. The concise narrative deals with the themes of sisterly rivalry, betrayal, and the repercussions of relentless ambition. How far are you willing to go to chase your dreams? This is the premise of SkyRacers. Watters narrates an absorbing plot, which is supported by some layered character work that makes the book a blast to go through. I enjoyed the complex dynamic between the sisters and their contrasting personalities. The ending leaves room for a sequel, and I sincerely hope to read it someday. This book is a treat for sports drama lovers.

It is a new season of the SkyRacers Grand Prix, and Aleeza Martin wants nothing more than to retain the title she won in the previous season. As the race stats pile up, Aleeza's chances are getting brighter by the minute. When her closest rival is injured in a suspicious accident, the last thing Aleeza expects is that her opponents will turn to her little sister Olivia to salvage their season. A shared passion for an extremely dangerous sport is about to inflame tensions in the already simmering sibling rivalry between two extremely motivated athletes in Matt Watters' SkyRacers.

Matt Watters entertains us with a story that questions if the popular saying about blood being thicker than water will hold when you add breakneck speed and glory into that mix. SkyRacers is as straightforward as it gets when it comes to a storyline. Two sisters vie for supremacy in the SkyRace GP's futuristic competition. Watters gives us an in-depth look at the origin of the races while intermingling that with his characters' stories perfectly. His use of technical terms, motorsport-specific language, and a glance at the leaderboard at the end of each chapter does a relatively nice job of immersing the reader in this novella without being obvious about it. The conversations between the characters are quite heated, especially whenever Aleeza and Olivia exchange words. The tension piles up as the conclusion looms. It is exciting to wonder which way Nicolas will turn to keep his family together. SkyRacers is the perfect blend of sports drama that action genre readers will find too appealing to resist.
