Joy Johnston is an award-winning author based in Atlanta who writes about family caregiving issues. When she's not writing she's taking care of her senior dog Murphy and a pair of young tuxedo cats named Serena and Dorian, all adopted from local rescue groups. Slow Dog is her first children's book. Slow Dog by Joy K Johnston is a gorgeous children's picture book about a slow dog who teaches a little girl a big life lesson. Destiny's grandma just adopted a big brown dog called Murphy from an animal shelter. Destiny knows that once she and Murphy meet, they will have so much fun together. They will run, play, and explore everything together. However, when they meet, Destiny discovers that Murphy isn't the way she expected him to be. She even complains to her grandma that Murphy isn't as fast as most dogs are. He is just too slow and can't meet her need for speed. How will they have fun together when Destiny likes to move fast, and Murphy prefers to take his time to explore everything?

Slow Dog by Joy K Johnston is a delightful and inspiring book showcasing the small and amazing things we fail to notice and enjoy because we're always in a rush. This appealing book is a timely reminder that the world around us is filled with wonderful things waiting to be discovered. It was so heartwarming to see the joy on Destiny's and Murphy's faces when they discovered all the new beautiful things. The illustrations from this cute and sweet book are lovely and well done. Johnston's exciting and adventurous story will touch the heart of dog lovers of all ages. It is a must-have for all youngsters who want to see life through the eyes of a special dog.
