Author Biography

I've always been a 'look on the bright side' kind of person, you know, if life gives you lemons make lemonade. I truly believe that everybody deserves a rainbow of happiness.

I wrote this story because ... what if someone married for what they believed was true love? This story came about because of that question. Then I wondered would it ever be too late to find heart-stopping, belly-swooping love. These thoughts brought life to a story that I needed to write, Splintered Dreams.

Splintered Dreams: Dare To Love Series is a contemporary romance novel written by Diana Lynn. While it had been only seven months since her husband of thirty years had died of a heart attack, Crisa was not the grief-stricken woman many might have thought her to be. Alan Brant had been fifteen years older than she, and he had engaged in a series of affairs that left her feeling like their marriage was little more than a secure convenience. Now that he was gone, she had tried indulging in some casual affairs herself, but was finding the exercise to be tedious at best. Her fourth one seemed no better than the others, and she found herself waiting for the moment when he would excuse himself and leave. Meaningless sex just wasn’t doing it for her, not at all.

Slade was an attorney where Crisa worked. They had become office friends of a sort over the last sixteen months since she had begun working there. Banter over coffee and pastries came easily, but they never saw each other as more than that. Slade had worked for Harrison & Crowe for over two decades now, and he had never married. His last disastrous attempt at dating had led to his date’s discussing marriage plans after the second date. He should have known better than to continue after that. Rebecca still called, months later, her messages cluttering his office and home phones. Crisa didn’t seem at all like Rebecca, but Slade would never have thought of asking her out but for one of those alarming phone messages that morning. Both Slade and Crisa felt awkward about having dinner together that night, but somehow that first date was more fun than either of them could have imagined.

Diana Lynn’s contemporary romance novel, Splintered Dreams: Dare To Love Series, charts the office romance of Slade and Crisa, one a long-time bachelor, the other a widow whose decades-long marriage had been relatively loveless. This second chance romance has a freshness and sparkle to it. Lynn’s characters seem rejuvenated and so actively in the present as their friendship blossoms into a sweet romance. Splintered Dreams is well written and hard to put down, making the reader feel invested in the outcome of Crisa and Slade’s romance. Splintered Dreams: Dare To Love Series is most highly recommended.

Splintered Dreams by Diana Lynn is a witty, sweet romance that could make unbelievers fall in love. Slade is tired of only dating gold diggers or psychopaths that stalk him. Crisa has been hurt too deeply by her late husband to believe there is a man for her who is caring, faithful, and ignites a passion within her. Daring to build on an office friendship, Slade and Crisa still hold on to their past fears. There is an undeniable spark that tempts them to give this relationship a chance, but can they get over their insecurities that continually cause them to question and doubt each other?

As a short appealing read, Splintered Dreams will satisfy any romantic at heart. Diana Lynn presents the difficulty both Crisa and Slade have in gaining a companion that both awakens a flame and trust. I love the uncertainty they have, which gives a sense of suspense. I love the touch of humor the author adds throughout their dating, making this story delightful to read. The characters are well defined with strengths and weaknesses which complement each other. The author does an excellent job presenting an issue with the relationship and having the characters work through this. The real test of their love binds the reader to Crisa and Slade when it looks as if their doubts will overcome what they have already built. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys the romance genre.

Splintered Dreams is a novella-length work of women’s fiction penned by author Diana Lynn, which is part of the Dare to Love series. Combining romance with personal drama, our central protagonist is Crisa, an older woman who had recently lost her husband. In the wake of discovering some long buried secrets about him, Crisa’s world is in crisis. But as she grieves and reevaluates the life she once had, new man Slade steps into the scene at her workplace. Slade has never made compromises for love in his life, but meeting Crisa makes him want to for the first time ever. As these two very different personalities meet, it’s up to Crisa whether she takes another chance on love or not.

Romance fans looking for a quick read will do well with this charming little novella about love later in life, and love after grief. There aren’t enough pages to get a full run down of each character deeply, but the general love dynamic of stubborn and insular versus kind and open plays out really well between Slade and Crisa. I applaud any love story that takes into account an older woman heroine and a real life having happened to her, and the dedication to Crisa’s emotional state was well handled by author Diana Lynn. I got a real sense of what she was going through, and her conflict in going back into the romance scene was so believable and emotive. Overall, I’d definitely recommend Splintered Dreams to romance fans looking for their next engrossing read.
