Grab yourselves a copy of Allan Davis' gripping murder mystery, Ten-Eighty (Discards). Since her mother's death, fourteen-year-old Katria Boscov has been living on a diet of donuts, gaining more weight with each passing day. Although ruled as a heart attack, Katria suspects her father, Comrade Ivan, of poisoning her mother because of her obesity, hampering the sale of his diet books. Seeing Katria struggle, Ivan asks his oldest daughter, Katria's stepsister Emma, to look after her in exchange for ten thousand dollars. Meanwhile, the middle sister Renata, a capricious temptress, is forcibly admitted to the psych ward, where she ends up seducing two of her doctors. When two additional family members unexpectedly turn up dead in quick succession, the Boskov siblings are the primary suspects. One of them may be the killer, but which one?

Unlike most murder mysteries, Ten-Eighty (Discards) isn't even about catching the killer as much as it is about the circumstances that led to the deaths of the victims. There is a certain comedic flair to Allan Davis' narrative that makes the book feel like a dark comedy more than a conventional murder mystery. The story revolves around the three Boskov sisters and their hatred of their father. Each one of them has the motive to kill their father, but the real question is who is brave and clever enough to pull it off, and how? Katria, Renata, and Emma are very different from one another, and it makes for a compelling dynamic between the three sisters. Whodunnit readers will love this one.
