Author Biography

An avid hunter for four decades, Mike Joyner found his place among the great forests, especially those of his beloved turkey woods over thirty-one years ago. He began deer hunting with a bow, and small game back in 1985. It wasn’t until he heard the massive gobbling of a flock of gobblers disrupted and scattered by incoming deer hunters one very cold morning during late deer season that gave cause to pursue the wiley wild turkey. His passions for a time-honored pastime have created a lifelong bond with the deeply wooded ridges and favored haunts from his home in New York and across the hills and woodlands of North America

A former president of the New York State Outdoor Writers Association, Joyner currently serves on its Board of Directors. Mike is also a former president of the New York State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Joyner also served on its Board of Directors from 1996 to 2005.

Mike publishes his works through Joyner Outdoor Media a publishing company that he founded in 2006. Joyner Outdoor Media provides publishing resources including marketing materials, press releases, and websites.

The author continues his craft in the most serene, natural settings and spends his quality time in his turkey woods sanctuary at his log home in McGraw, New York, where he lives with his wife Lee.

Ten To Life: Delirium Tales of a Covid-19 Survivor is a work of non-fiction in the medical subgenre. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by Mike Joyner. The book follows the author's experiences with Covid-19 which included four hospitals in forty days, located all over the USA. Despite having no pre-existing health conditions and being in good shape, the author barely survived his infection and spent over two weeks in a medically induced coma. Using the book to share the experience of not just the physical but also the psychological effects of Covid-19, the author relates the terrifying journey.

It’s strange to think that at the time of writing this review, Covid-19 is mostly behind us. For many of us, our worst memories of the pandemic will be the lockdown restrictions and the impact they had, but for numerous people, the consequences of the virus itself will be felt for a long time to come. Such was the experience of Mike Joyner, who shares his traumatic journey of suffering the effects of the virus in this insightful and painfully honest reflection. Depicting the kind of hardship that the author underwent is a challenging prospect, but through outstanding and well-considered prose, I reached the end of the book feeling as if I better understood an event far removed from any I’ve lived through. Ten To Life is an odyssey into a dark and sometimes mind-bending experience that few have suffered and even fewer have the skill to depict so vividly on the page.
