The Daddy Chronicles: Memoir of a Fatherless Daughter by Jayne Martin is the true story of a young girl yearning for the love and attention of her father, but she never received it while he lived at home with his family. Her heart breaks when her father abandons them, and she dreams of him returning to her with open arms. As a little girl, her mother's boyfriend hurt her, but she only mentions this later in the book. Jayne has no idea what love is supposed to be. She seems infatuated and drawn to boys or men who mistreat her and conversely not attracted to men who treat her well. This poetic, deeply personal, and moving memoir highlights the importance of a father, his role, and the impact of an absent one on a woman's life.

The Daddy Chronicles by Jayne Martin is a daring, thought-provoking, and emotionally charged account of how an absent father impacted her life and relationships. I loved this book. The ease with which Martin tells this traumatic story is impressive and allowed me to grasp her emotions through all of her disappointments. Martin tells her story succinctly in a beautifully poetic style that captures your attention and retains it from start to finish, as she vividly articulates her experience. I think Martin has managed to describe emotions that women have failed to express for centuries, at least not in the evocative form that Martin has so accurately created. This is a phenomenal story and one of the best memoirs I've read.
