Dive into an engrossing supernatural odyssey with Reese T. Lightfoot's The Devil Catches Butterflies. Phoebe Graham is an editorial assistant working for a reputable publishing house in New York City with ambitions to write a novel of her own. After a shocking attack in the subway leaves her on the brink of death, a stranger named Alvin Casen merges his essence into Phoebe's body to save her life, and he becomes a part of her psyche. Alvin introduces Phoebe to a mysterious book of spells called the Night Script, which grants the reader extraordinary powers but at a steep price. Meanwhile, Gamigin, a powerful demon, is searching for the book to free his brethren and wreak havoc. Now, Phoebe, Alvin, and her newfound friend, Darius, must find a way to stop Gamigin and his nefarious plans.

Fast-paced and filled to the brim with magic, mystery, and intrigue, The Devil Catches Butterflies is an absolute treat for urban fantasy lovers. Reese T. Lightfoot incorporates a lot of lore into the story, which makes the supernatural elements of the tale all the more fascinating for the reader. There is a palpable sense of tension in the narrative that keeps you glued to the pages in anticipation of what's going to happen next. I loved the character interactions and the dynamic between Phoebe, Alvin, and Darius. The backstory behind the Night Script was one of the other highlights of the book for me. This is the kind of book I will highly recommend to both readers of urban fantasy and supernatural mystery.
