The Devil’s Calling is a work of fiction in the action and paranormal subgenres and is the sequel to The Lost Theory. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by Michael Kelley. Taking place nine years after the first book, Sean McQueen is happily living with M at a college they’ve created. But when Sean receives a telepathic message warning him that M is in danger, he starts getting ready to defend her against any threats, including the vengeful ex-CIA agent Guru who may be behind a dangerous new hive mind technology being pushed as part of the agenda of a deadly and secretive group.

Many writers have a daunting task ahead of them to produce a sequel to a complex and involved first novel, especially one as intriguing as The Lost Theory. Michael Kelley has risen to the occasion with an equally compelling thriller that finds new and exciting ways to raise the stakes and push the development of established characters in different directions. Sean and Emily’s dynamic is excellently portrayed and adds a tangible stake to the dangers that they face throughout the story. The premise of Genesis and its implications for the future of the world was both engaging as ideas and terrifying as a threat to humanity. The Devil’s Calling is an excellent example of an action thriller that balances high-stakes encounters with a thoroughly human grounding, thanks to its protagonists and excellent prose. Overall, this book is a must-read for fans of the original, and I happily recommend it to all readers.
