Author Biography

Airic Fenn is a child of the Rocky Mountains and spends more of their time in their own vivid imaginings than perhaps is proper (but who really cares about proper?). When they aren’t writing, you can find them making art or dabbling in one of their many hobbies, from leathercraft and bookbinding to exploring the outdoors and attending renfaires. The Dreamer and the Marked is their debut novel.

The Dreamer and the Marked by Airic Fenn follows the tale of Krystal Monarain, a young woman who lived most of her life as an outcast. Krystal finds herself dreaming about a mysterious and mystical manor occupied by a multitude of odd-looking creatures for the past two months. She would have kept believing these vivid dreams to be nothing if not for one night when a strange man from this dream world notices her. Not long after this, she happens to meet this mysterious man from her dreams in real life, and from that point on Krystal’s life flips on its head. All the strange stories and tales her Mam told her finally start to make sense and Krystal realizes why she was always an outsider. Forcing her way into a world she feels may accept her, Krystal may have bitten off more than she can chew.

The Dreamer and the Marked by Airic Fenn is a beautifully written fantasy novel with an expansive world, creative story, and such in-depth characters. What I loved most was seeing how the two main characters interacted and help each other grow. Krystal comes across as very naïve and goes through a lot of character growth while she travels with Draqa, who is forced to let others in and not be so cold. The plot progression was also wonderfully done as you switch between the main characters and other key characters in the novel. This keeps you tuned in to what is happening within Arai and the story itself. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would highly recommend it.
