My kids are the inspiration that fuels my imagination. My middle grade novel, which is about twins, came about because I have twins. And I wanted to know what kind of adventures my twins would have--and so The Eerie Brothers and The Witches of Autumn was that adventure, of many to come.

The Eerie Brothers and The Witches of Autumn is a supernatural story for preteens by Sheldon Higdon. Twelve-year-old twin brothers, Horace and Edgar Eerie, are grieving their mother’s death. When weird things happen to them during detention, they discover they are witches with unusual abilities. They go back in time to Salem in 1692 where witches’ powers are being absorbed by Hex who wants dominance. They need to find the Four Seasons if they are to prevent Hex from causing more destruction and persecution of witchcraft. Not knowing their skills makes it difficult and dangerous for Horace and Edgar. Learning all the spells with the guidance of Aunt Jan also seems impossible with the limited time they have to complete their quest as their lives are at risk.
Horace and Edgar have my sympathy and admiration. I think they are brave to face the many challenging adventures and creepy creatures they encounter, despite being very afraid. Each has emotional personal battles to cope with, especially with the absence of their mother, Autumn. Edgar is the one who likes to joke around and doesn’t take things seriously like Horace. Sheldon Higdon has written a wonderful supernatural story that has a bit of a dark side, sadness, and a touch of humor too. I like the creativity, and the character types are quite interesting. The Eerie Brothers and The Witches of Autumn will grab your attention from the very beginning to the end. Pre-teens who like reading supernatural tales will find this book absorbing.
