The Gold Mystery Adventure is an action-adventure sci-fi middle-grade novel by R.R. Kaufman. Since Razor's ruthless regime took over, the planet of Odyssey hasn't been the same. Zhen was searching for her mother, Cyna, and Professor Mars, her uncle, when she stumbled upon a golden chip while taking out one of Razor's drokes. Upon investigating further, Zhen learns her mother and uncle have been kidnapped and taken to planet Earth and kept captive on Tailbone Island. Using the Lux portal, Zhen travels to Earth, where she helps three girls stranded on an island. Now, Zhen must uncover the mysteries of the chip that has the power to stop Razor and her drokes. But Zhen needs more allies. Will Zhen be able to rescue her loved ones and save her world from Razor's nefarious plans?

An action-packed sci-fi odyssey for children and young adults alike, The Gold Mystery Adventure has never a dull moment and keeps your eyes glued to the pages. R.R. Kaufman uses a fast-paced narrative full of action, mystery, and intrigue, featuring lively characters who keep you entertained all the way through. From the first page onward, you find yourself thrust into this unique world with cool futuristic gadgets and a tenacious protagonist who never lets adversity get in the way of her goals. The scenes featuring Zhen and Razor and their constant back and forth were some of my favorites in the book. The story also highlights the importance of friends and working together. In conclusion, I had a blast reading this book and highly recommend it to young action-adventure lovers.

R.R. Kaufman brings us a spectacular blend of fantasy and sci-fi in The Gold Mystery Adventure. On a planet called Odyssey, Zhen has left the underwater safety of Genus to search for information about her missing mother. It seems her uncle has vanished as well. What she finds instead is a fight for survival from Razor’s machines on Brix. Winning this fight leaves her with the prize of a chip made of gold. What it does and what it means is unclear, but Razor wants it back, desperately. The people of Odyssey want their planet back to the way it was before Razor took over and started destroying it. Zhen is their hope for freedom. Can she solve the puzzle of how to defeat Razor and save her family and friends?

The author captivates readers with headstrong and resolute female characters. Ideal for younger readers from the age of 12, this story is filled to the brink with invaluable lessons for life. There are good explanations of the movements of characters along with reasons and benefits, which I found very enlightening. The choreography of practice sessions is so vivid that you can see every strike they make. All the senses are stimulated as the descriptions are engaging, from a quiet stroll to traveling to another planet. You can smell the earth, feel the rain, and hear the waters raging. Fundamental moral lessons are a strong theme throughout this book and character growth is firmly evident. You will not regret reading The Gold Mystery Adventure by R.R. Kauffman.
