Author Biography

Sofia Seitchik, the founder of Global Deaf Women, has a mission to inspire, uplift, and lead Deaf women to own their voice and visualize their ideal life without limitations.

Sofia was born in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, educated in St. Petersburg, Russia (formerly the Soviet Union), and immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 16 to transition to a better life. Her experience as a Deaf female immigrant has influenced her passion for working with Deaf women in their transformational life journeys.

Sofia has over 11 years of experience life & business coaching and empowering Deaf women to let their "Inner Light" shine. As a result, they can reclaim their power, create a story of who they are with confidence, reframe their mindset, and embrace their authentic self in their lives.

Their life stories awakened her to publish a unique book, The Light of Deaf Women: Inspirational Stories From Visionaries, Artists, Founders & Entrepreneurs.

Today Sofia is an author, speaker, and visionary coach. She offers a wide range of program and services through Global Deaf Women —which include hosting retreats, and keynote speeches. By staying true to her mantra to fully trust the flow of life, Sofia and her husband, David, took a leap of faith to travel around the world for nearly a year with their two young sons. She loves to meet people from all walks of life, so feel free to get in touch with her.

The Light of Deaf Women: Inspirational Stories from Visionaries, Artists, Founders and Entrepreneurs by Deaf businesswoman and life coach Sofia Seitchik is a wonderful collection of mini-biographies accompanied by black-and-white photographs highlighting the achievements of almost 90 Deaf women. These women represent a variety of racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds and life experiences and an even wider range of professions, careers, crafts, trades, and interests. Based on the theme that every person has an inner light to shine and share with others, each mini-biography is accompanied by a short quote. “Trust your flow; it is the Light of your life,” Seitchik writes. “When doubt or fear shows up, it is a sign to shift your way of thinking so your inner Light keeps flowing.” A list of the women, their occupations, and web sites is also provided along with photographic credits.

In The Light of Deaf Women, Seitchik gives us a glimpse into the lives of women whose achievements can inspire us all. The presentation is crisp and engaging. I especially liked the black and white images in which the women wore white or light clothing against white backgrounds. It focused my attention on their expressions and gave substance to their positive outlook on life. “Let’s enhance the path for a brighter, barrier-free future for young Deaf women so they can leap to new heights!” one of the women writes. As a book prepared by Deaf women to celebrate the achievements of Deaf women, it more than hits the mark and could be especially inspirational to young Deaf women. As a book featuring the accomplishments of women who might be our own mothers, sisters, daughters, neighbors, coworkers, and employers, it can appeal to readers of any sex, age, or background. Highly recommended.
