The Lost Son is the first book in The Zargothian Saga, an epic fantasy series by Aidan Lucid. This book follows the story of Henry Simmons, a seemingly normal seventeen-year-old boy whose world is about to be turned upside down. It all begins when Henry finds a gold coin in his family’s garden, an object that appears to grant him supernatural abilities. It’s all fun and games until Henry suddenly finds himself transported to a dimension far from his own, and one that has been ravaged by an ongoing war. Trapped in this dimension with no way to get home, Henry is plunged into the middle of the conflict. Will he be able to help the humans in this new realm to achieve victory, or will King Zakarius and the Sadarkian army defeat them?

The Lost Son is a gripping fantasy adventure that will leave readers on the edge of their seats. Aidan Lucid is extremely talented and proves this on every page. The world-building is exquisitely detailed, but not so much that the reader drowns in it. The role players are well-developed, with distinct voices and personalities that show through in the writing. The plot is incredibly intricate and descriptive, yet not so complicated that the reader gets lost in it. The pacing is steady, and not at all rushed. Once I started, I could not put it down. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
