Lack of forgiveness is a pandemic among Christians, between the lack of forgiveness for our own shortcomings and for those offenses committed against us. The Power of Forgiveness by T. K. Ware and his special guests deal with the pain caused by unforgiveness. The first chapter written by Ware deals with the process of forgiveness and the need for forgiveness. After that, he allows his guests to write chapters explaining how they learned the need and art of forgiving. When we don’t forgive, we not only disobey God, but we harm ourselves. A lack of forgiveness causes not only spiritual sickness but also physical and mental anguish. Forgiveness does not change history or cause us to forget our pain, but it does release the pain associated with the offense. Forgiveness is freeing.

The Power of Forgiveness has an interesting set-up. Ware opens the book then allows his guests to finish it. Each of the seven contributors presents their lessons learned in their own life and how they came to understand the need to forgive. All the writers agree that only through the power of the Lord Jesus Christ can one truly forgive. The last half of this book is composed of a listing of various Bible verses about forgiveness (just the content and reference of the verses—no commentary) and then pages to use as a spiritual journal with lots of blank lines. This book is short but a good introduction to the need to forgive because the Lord Jesus Christ has forgiven us.
