On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama became the 44th president of the United States of America, the first Black man in American history elected as the president. Yet, as monumental as the occasion was, America still has not elected a woman president. In The President Wears Pink by Mandana Vetto, a little girl wonders about this idea. A leader must be a problem solver and an involver. Women have shown in a wide variety of fields that they are no less determined, capable, and focused than their male counterparts. Women have achieved greatness in many areas, including sports, politics, environmental activism, science, technology, business, etc. So why have they yet to be selected as President of the United States?

With catchy and rhyming verses alongside vibrant illustrations, Mandana Vetto calls for inclusivity and diversity in top leadership positions across the institutions of America. This children's picture book touches upon an increasingly relevant message for young girls. It encourages them to aim for the highest positions and outstanding achievements. Sara Foresti's illustrations splash color on the pages and make the characters feel all the more lively and wonderful to read about. As the world becomes more inclusive, women leaders will play an ever-important role in shaping humanity's future. The President Wears Pink is a step forward in the right direction to help instill self-belief and confidence in young girls so they maximize their optimal potential. Highly recommended.
