The Ring Keeper by A. J. Park commences with a terrifying pursuit as Ana must escape the Shekkar demons. Accompanied by Dane and Zarek, she sets off for the safety of the warding surrounding Sarine. The journey is terrifying and tragic as Dane is killed. Arriving in Sarine, Ana heals the emperor, Callonen, and learns he was once engaged to her mother. Named as heir to the throne, Ana lives a happy life until she becomes fond of Gavin. Why would the emotions of the man who wants to marry her be difficult to read? The story then shifts into the past life of Ana’s mother, Allia, who was engaged to one twin but kidnapped by the other; she has not been seen for many years and is presumed dead. Will Ana suffer a similar fate or are there forces working for the good of the Sarine Empire?

The Ring Keeper by A. J. Park provided an exciting drama of suitable length. I really enjoyed the character-driven plot, forming sympathy towards Ana, Zarek, Callonen, Toren, and Allia; these characters were all motivated by the desire to love each other and serve the people. The diametrically opposite villain, Haldreth, seemed like pure evil. The healing ring plot device was employed boldly and originally, allowing characters to sacrifice themselves more than once for the greater good. There were also a few surprises. I hoped for a couple of outcomes and was thrilled to have my wishes fulfilled; it was almost like the author had anticipated my desires. The love story took second place to the adventure, but Ana ended up with the person I liked. The Ring Keeper was stimulating and entertaining reading.
