The Seduction of Cameron MacKay: The Nightingales - Book 2 by Sheri Humphreys is the love story of surgeon Cameron MacKay and Elissa Lockwood, a nurse in Miss Nightingale's cadre. Cameron MacKay is a surgeon at Koulali Hospital and he has been with his regiment near the front and on the battlefield since his arrival in the Crimea when the fighting broke out. This is the first time he is meeting a Nightingale nurse and she accompanies him on daily rounds and makes sure his orders are followed. They both are drawn to each other but Elissa gets sent back to England after being dismissed from the hospital. Fate has other plans and both of them end up working in the same hospital in London. Elissa realizes Cameron is not the same person she knew earlier. Will they be able to get back together and make their relationship work?

The author knits romance, pain, sadness, joy, destruction, war, and healing into the plot effortlessly. The twists and turns make the story interesting and leave readers with a sense of curiosity and urgency to know how the plot is going to progress and what is going to happen to the love story of Cameron and Elissa. It is a story of separation, healing, and redemption that is palpable as the plot progresses. All the characters are well sketched and they complement and support the main characters, Cameron and Elissa, well. The author's writing style is fluid and expressive and that makes the story and characters come alive for readers. Set against the backdrop of the Crimean War, there is a historical angle to the love story which has been handled well by the author.
