The Soldier Gets His Girl: Crimson Creek Book 1 by Jane Poller, is a fresh, energetic romance novel set against the backdrop of everyday life. Relatable, down-to-earth characters and a well-paced plot make this story a joy to read. Female lead Cindy is a busy single mom and nurse taking care of her three boys. No room for a romantic relationship, until she meets Andy at the hospital, a wounded warrior forced to retire from the Army because of an injury. There is an instant physical attraction that can't be denied, but there is more to a relationship than animal magnetism. She is reluctant to commit to a relationship, and Andy has some baggage of his own, so the question is, is it worth it to pursue a relationship, and if they do, will it be strong enough to manage the curves of life?

Poller takes readers on a realistic, steamy, entertaining romp through a contemporary romance between an injured Army vet and a health care professional. The characters are likable, the attraction is undeniable, and the conflict is real, which is the perfect recipe for a hot romance. But there is more to this sexy story than meets the eye. Beneath the banter, muscles, and heavy breathing lies a solid story about two people feeling their way through what could end up being THE relationship of their lives. If they could just get out of their own way, that is. This author sets up the scenes in realistic ways, showing the downs as well as the ups in Cindy and Andy's relationship journey. The story keeps moving forward, but Poller makes the good choice to put up real-world roadblocks along the way--roadblocks that could derail a potentially awesome relationship.

The author's style is lean but thorough, bringing you inside the hearts and minds of the characters by showing rather than telling, and with dialogue that sparkles. Her choice to use non-traditional leads and some mature tones lends gravity and realism that readers will appreciate. If you're looking for a well-written romance novel that is as intellectually satisfying as it is spicy, The Soldier Gets His Girl: Crimson Creek Book 1 by Jane Poller should be on your to-read list.
