The Spirit of Stone-and-Light Canyon is a young adult adventure thriller written by Linda C. Quattrochi. Abby's not too pleased with the way the summer after her junior year in high school is turning out. She wishes her two friends, Jake and Mayumi, weren't on vacation with their families, as there are so many places for the three of them to go adventuring and fossil-hunting. While Abby loves the area where she lives, she does wish that her family would take vacations outside their home state of New Mexico. Right now, Mayumi is in California, and Jake is enjoying the sun and surf of Florida, while she's trying to figure out just what to do with herself until they come back. Then the strange, elderly woman who lives next door tells her a story about the spirit she once saw and the secret canyon she found, and Abby is hooked on her next great adventure.

I knew right away that I was going to have a grand time reading Linda C. Quattrochi's young adult adventure thriller, The Spirit of Stone-and-Light Canyon. It didn't take more than the first few paragraphs to realize I had found a kindred adventuring spirit in Abby, the young fossil-hunter and explorer, and I found myself wishing I had access to a Jeep just like hers and a secret canyon to discover. Quattrochi's story is a first-rate adventure thriller that, while geared for a young adult audience, should please adventure/thriller readers of all ages. Her plot is ingenious and action-packed, and her writing is smooth and easy on the eyes. My initial expectations for a grand adventure were actually surpassed, and I found myself thoroughly enjoying every moment I spent reading this book. I'm hoping to see more of Abby and her friends in future adventures. The Spirit of Stone-and-Light Canyon is most highly recommended.
