Post-apocalyptic survival isn’t easy for anyone, but it just got tougher for Ruin Rat Kayla in Jamie A. Waters' The Two Towers. Headstrong and independent, Kayla is a skilled scavenger and an intelligent computer hacker. She has caught the eye of one of the lead traders which supplies Omnilab’s two towers with the luxury items their residents once enjoyed 150 years before the destruction of the cities. Digging through the ruins, the items are recovered and sold by traders to Omnilab; what’s left over after the traders leave the sector is left to a group of scavengers called Ruin Rats. When Kayla discovers a particularly valuable Aurelia Data Cube after trader Ramiro had cleared the area, she suddenly finds herself in conflict with the trader who later proves that he will stop at nothing to get even with her and everyone associated with her. Having been discovered by another trader, Carl, who is a leader among his peers, Kayla is brought on board with him, initially because of her scavenger instincts, but also in order to provide her with protection from Ramiro. As things heat up in the conflict with Ramiro, they also heat up between Kayla and Carl whose chemistry at times is simply out of control.

The Two Towers is a well-written and action-packed sci-fi thriller that is the first in a planned series by Jamie A. Waters. The action, intrigue and suspense keep the story moving, while the explosive romance between Kayla and Carl adds plenty of extra spice. This is a well thought-out plot which is perfectly executed in a way that draws the reader into a deeply emotional attachment with the hero and heroine. Once caught up in Kayla’s plight, it is impossible to put the book down. Suspenseful, steamy and action-packed, The Two Towers is a blockbuster opening to a series which is certain to thrill sci-fi readers for years to come.

The Two Towers by Jamie A. Waters is one of those rare gems that makes you wish you had more time to read (if you're like me and have to spend a lot of time with work). The main character, Kayla, will immediately make you like her with her interesting mix of recklessness, confidence, and frailty. In her world, society is divided into two camps: the ruin rats who scavenge in the ruins for valuables to sell to traders, and the rich and influential people who live in the two towers that were built to be a safe haven in a desolate world. When Kayla is talked into joining a proper trader's camp, more information about her past comes to the surface - information she had never thought possible. And one of her finds of the past has more influence on people's live than she would ever have imagined - and it is an influence she would like to undo.

I was a bit disappointed when The Two Towers ended because I did not want to leave the characters and the world they lived in. After finishing the last page, you definitely want to know what will happen next. I'd love to read the next book in the series! The writing is excellent, and the story keeps you turning one page after the other. I very much liked it that the love "triangle" between Kayla and the two men (won't give too much away here) did not feel cheesy at all. Up to the end, I hoped Kayla would make a certain decision, but you could never be truly sure about what she would do. The Two Towers is an exemplary story about what happens when one person tries to control more than is good - and what happens when only one person wants to make a change. It shows the ripple effect one person's courage can have on others.

Kayla had grown up as a ruin rat and she loved her life just the way it was. She hated the towers and the pompous people who lived there; the towers had been build over a hundred years ago before the war that destroyed everything on Earth and left it highly contaminated and generally inhabitable. The OmniLab Towers protected the privileged few while the rest lived on Earth, mainly surviving by selling artifacts from the ruins. The only link between the two worlds was the traders from the towers who bought the artifacts, and Kayla hated them with a passion. However, because of her exceptional skills, she was known and admired by many in the scavenging business and this is how she met Carl. Because he was an Omni trader, Carl represented everything she hated, but at the same time she was wildly attracted to him. When Kayla found herself targeted by a vindictive trader and had no option but to stay at Carl's camp for her own safety, she was determined not to let this sway her opinion about the towers and everything they represented. But all this changed when a meeting with representatives from the towers revealed perplexing facts about her life and opened possibilities she never even thought existed.

The Two Towers by Jamie A. Waters is an incredibly fascinating story with a perfect blend of drama, science fiction, romance and adventure, plus a touch of humor. The plot is unique and flawlessly created to highlight the two different worlds that survived alongside each other. The contrast between life on the surface and in the towers is overwhelming in a way that adds an extra thrill to the story. Jamie A. Waters' incredible writing style vividly brings this contradiction to life. The descriptive writing style gives you a clear image of life on the surface and in the ruins, and then flips over and shows you a completely different world in the towers. The book is so well written that you feel every single change in emotion, especially as Kayla lives her free-spirited life, and the mixture of emotions she feels along the way as she discovers her past and, in a way, discovers herself. The Two Towers by Jamie A. Waters is a definite page-turner and gives an extraordinarily amazing reading experience.

This is a well crafted story and I absolutely enjoyed reading it from start to finish. It's a captivating and gripping read that had me engaged from the beginning. The story flows from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There's a profusion of well illustrated scenes that really make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that's something I really look for in a good book.

The story had every element a good story should have. An exciting plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. This interesting and compelling work, as I said, had my attention from the start and there are twists and turns in this page turner that will take the reader on a very intriguing and compelling journey! Also, the writing style is uncomplicated which makes for an enjoyable read.

It's one of those stories that come along once in awhile that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I'm giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!

I'd highly recommend this read to all fans of the Science Fiction & Fantasy genre. It wouldn't surprise me if I saw this on the Silver Screen. This Sci-Fi adventure is creative, imaginative and ingenious!

I'll certainly be looking forward to reading more from Jamie A. Waters in the future!

The book "The Two Towers" was my first experience with Jamie A. Waters' work. I welcomed the chance to read this futuristic, sci-fi novel when I was offered it in exchange for an honest review. Being a fan of authors such as Issac Asmov and George Orwell when I was a child, I remember being absorbed for hours about possible advances in science and future events for the human race. This book, being based 150 years in the future was quite a read and I found it right on par with my childhood memories of reading a good science fiction story.

I found the story to be very well written and engaging. If the author didn't do it themselves; whomever edited and proofread this book needs to be applauded. The arrangement of each paragraph flowed well and each chapter was very easy to read. What pleased me most about the authors writing style, was that it didn't feel stilted in language and it wasn't absurd or awkward to read. Unfortunately, I find a lot more bad writing from seasoned authors. I read the other reviews of this book and say that I must agree that this does remind me of the Hunger Games a bit; although I've never read the book and only seen the movie.

I liked the lead character Kayla. She reminded me of a 5 foot 2 inch stick of street-smart, ruin-rat dynamite, ready to explode at a moments notice. Her saucy and inquisitive demeanor in the story-line filled her out and kept the character interesting. Kayla having a back-story built in to the plot really helped as well. Her man Carl, made a great underdog at her side battling the corrupt and evil Omnilab. The other characters such as Seara and even Varidian also seemed well thought out and developed too. In my opinion, the whole story was very well put together, believable and vividly written from start to finish.

I'm really amazed that this work seems to be this authors first book here on Amazon. Bravo! This author deserves five stars all the way for a fantastic debut release. I would recommend this book to all adults that like action packed science fiction!

Reading Genius

If you love books like the ‘The Hunger Games” and “The Bone Season” then you’re going to love this one. The storyline the author creates is clever and immense and it really throws you into a ‘dark world’ he’s created.

Even though it’s science fiction, it’s been written in a way that’s very realistic and unlike most books in this genre you’ll find it easy to connect to the characters. You can tell there’s been a lot of development and thought about the plot, which I love, because it makes it flow easily without you questioning the story. I think this is essential in a good sci-fi novel.

Without giving too much away, the 2 main characters Kyla and Carl get caught up in a corrupt and dangerous saga against the elusive Omnilab. This premise makes for a book that is full of suspense, intrigue and adventure.

It left me wanting more and I would love to read further books, if the author decides to make them. Overall, a great read!

I’ve been a sci-fi fan since I was a kid, while dystopian is more of a new love of mine. This book offers a great mix of the two, with a hefty dose of very believable and sweet romance. One of the main things that I really liked about this book is the idea of a future world that still has high tech devices, but is otherwise in ruins, with little social order of any kind. That’s kind of how I picture the dystopian future of this planet too.

I really liked the main heroine Kayla, who is at once tough and very vulnerable. She came to life on the page, as did most of the supporting characters. I also really appreciated the vivid descriptions of the scenery and the world. In a sci-fi/dystopian novel it’s really important for the author to introduce the world well, which this author succeeded in doing As for the plot, it unfolds in a logical way and at a very enjoyable pace.

All in all, this is a very enjoyable read that will appeal to both sci-fi as well as dystopian fans.

I was really unsure about buying this book. When it was first recommended to me, it didn't have any ratings, it was published as e-book only, and it was recommended to me by a family member of the author. I was really hesitating on buying it, but I'd been in a period where I just couldn't find a really good book. I decided to try downloading a sample first on my Kindle. As soon as I got to the end of the sample I had to purchase the full copy. I just couldn't put it down.

I can't say enough good about it. It was a pretty significant length. It had detail, but not so much that I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere in the story. The story itself was engaging and thought provoking. As the book went on, I felt myself switching sides as to who I wanted to root for. I just loved it!

If you're unsure about buying the book - Try the sample first. It's a great book. I can't wait for the sequel!

::Disclaimer:: I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for posting a review.

This books is ahh-mazing! I personally don't think the synopsis does it justice. This book is a combo of many genres in one. (Sci-fi, romance, action with a sprinkle of paranormal) I tend to try and predict the story line before I get to it and this one did not let me. The story line is original and kept me guessing the entire book. Each time I thought I had it figured out I was wrong.

I really enjoyed the personalities of the characters in the trader camp the most. (Except for that one crab apple)

As I read the last page my immediate thought was MORE! I am impatiently waiting the next installment of the book.

I wonder who will play the parts of Kayla an Carl when it becomes a movie. Yes, it is that good!

Jaided247

I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is listed as a sci-fi / romance, but it is so much more. It has a little something for every taste. It is extremely well written, great character and plot development, and never a dull moment. I am literally counting the months until the sequel.
Here's hoping for a big screen adaptation. I think it would be better than the Hunger Games and Divergent.
I look forward to many more books to come from Jamie A. Waters.

The two self-sustaining towers built by OmniLab take center stage in this epic adventure that is sure to be an instant classic

What can be said about, “The Two Towers” by Author Jamie A Waters other then, Brilliant.
Follow Main Characters, Kayla and Caral as the battle together on an epic journey fit to eradicate the corruption found at the Two Towers. Kayla is a headstrong ruin rat this is fun and loving yet cunning and slick on all the right levels. Carl a bit more unorthodox with a sly personality and a vivid selling ability that ends up using Kayla to stop that corruption and get what he wants. A strange artifact known as The Aurelia Data Cube is discovered and twists and turns are found around every corner. The end seems like the beginning and no one is ever who he or she seems to be in this fantastic, original story that is not for the faint of heart.

Total read time for me was three nights. I thought that this was a gripping unique sci-fi story the likes of which I have seen only on the big screen. All of the characters were developed lovely with depth and personality. The descriptions of the locations, the ruin rats, the Towers the and setting was perfectly concocted and well written in a thought provoking manner that put me in the center of the storyline and plot theme. Truly the writings of a seasoned veteran but yet this is the first time I have had the chance to read the works of Author Jamie A. Waters. He is an amazing storyteller that will certainly captivate your heart and imagination with this story and I’m positive this is just the beginning of what else he has in store for us readers.

As a huge fan of the apocalypse type books this one book really had me turning the pages deep into the night, The main character Kayla was very well written and showed true development as the book progresses. Thrust into a series of events beyond her control we get to watch as she rises to the challenge in front of her and grow as a character. For me the best part of a well written story is watching how the characters react when faced with adversity and seeing them develop. This book does that very well. There is nothing static about this story, it keeps a good pace with enough adventure and intrigue to satisfy all readers. Very highly recommended!

First let me just say that this is one of those books that sinks its hooks into you and doesn't let go. So don't start it unless you have cleared your schedule. You have been warned!

The Two Towers is set 150 years in the future. The world has been ravaged by war, and unless you were one of the select few who could buy a residence in the elitist towers built by Omnilab it was up to fate wether you would survive. Kayla is the descendant of the lucky few who survived outside the towers.

A "ruin rat" to the core you can't help but fall in love with her. She finds herself caught up in a fight that was predestined to her, but will going up against the evil and corrupt Omnilab corporation prove to be too much?

Overall this book is a very solid five stars.

Randall L. Scott

The Two Towers by Jamie A. Waters is an action packed thriller with more twists and turns than a mountain road. One hundred and fifty years after an apocalyptic war ravaged the planet, the remains of mankind fight to survive. Some are privileged with a habitable environment, while others struggle to get by finding relics in the ruins of a lost civilization. I've read thousands of books in the Sci Fi and Fantasy genres, and this one ranks up there with the best. The main character, Kayla, is interesting and believable. She is strong-willed, talented, and has a dry humor I loved. The story line is new and fascinating, and the author creates a dark, post-apocalyptic world full of imagery and suspense. The mystery surrounding the main character and the numerous plot twists made it impossible for me to put the book down until I finished it. I'm excited about reading the next books in this excellent series from an author who is now in my must buy list. Finding a great new author is always an unexpected pleasure. Try out this book and the series. You'll be pleasantly surprised and glad you did. I highly recommend it!

I have been a scifi / fantasy book reader since I was a child, the premise of the book intrigued me enough to buy it. The big surprise was, I could not stop reading it. All the characters felt "real" the descriptions of the settings were breathtaking and the plot immediately hooked me in. Being a male I do not read romance types of books, but this story was truly epic in my opinion. I finished the book wanting more of this story, I feel this first volume is the tip of the iceberg. This is one author I am putting on my watch list. Do yourself a favor, buy it and see for yourself.

A unique twist to the genre, pulled off near flawlessly by top quality writing.

I finished this book before bed last night, but only just found time to leave a review. First of all, let me say that I love science-fiction and especially any sci-fi that has a dystopian or post-apocalyptic influence. That is what first intrigued me enough to give this book a chance, but it's definitely not the only thing that kept me hooked once I had delved into the story.

What I admire about this author and 'The Two Towers' is the simple fact that she isn't afraid to stand out from the mainstream and generic that most writers seem to abide by; Jamie A. Waters adds a unique twist to the genre that I haven't come across before, and I would consider that to be quite an impressive feat - considering the fact that I have read countless sci-fi books over the years that incorporate a dystopian them in some form or another, yet there's only a few that I would consider to be in the same tier of quality that I would say The Two Towers resides in.

Another thing that stood out to me about this book is the added romance twist, which adds an extra layer of originality to the book and which is also a big reason of why I loved this book so much and literally found myself reading it whenever I had the chance. I have seen a few authors try to blend different elements from other genres into a post-apocalyptic/dystopian setting, but most fail - thankfully, Jamie A. Waters has gone way above and beyond and left me not only more than satisfied with the book, but also with a name to keep an eye on - in anticipation of future releases. I highly recommend The Two Towers, and I ultimately give this book a strong 9/10, there are a few very minor 'rough parts', but I haven't came across a single perfect book in my life, so I am still going to give this book 5 stars, as I think that's what this author truly deserves, considering she isn't one of the 'big names' of the genre, at least not yet..

Jaime Herrera

If you are not a science fiction reader do not be discouraged. This is more of a futuristic novel than a science fiction. As other's have stated this is a great page turner. The charters are very well developed and the story is very easy to follow with a great pace. There are great plot twists! I am excited and waiting on the edge of my seat for the next book that I know will be forthcoming. I am hoping that this will turn into the next "must read" series! Possibly even some movies?

Book Lover

The Two Towers by Jamie A. Waters is an engrossing book and will keep you wanting to read more. I wasn't sure if I would like this book or not but once I started reading it I couldn't stop. This book is full of adventure and intrigue. It is set 150 years in the future in a society that is broken up into separate parts. Those who live in the towers and those who live on the surface, (The Traders and Ruin rats). Those who live on the surface search for artifacts to trade with those living in the towers. The plot turns when the main character is taken to the towers by a chance encounter and decides to help those in the towers overcome an oppressive rule that was not originally known about. This book is full of adventure and intrigue. It is a sci-fi, romance, action, and a slight paranormal all in one.

The main character Kayla, is head-strong and independent. She is my favorite character and I loved seeing her many different aspects. Kayla is the type of character who would make a great friend as she is fiercely devoted to those she cares about.

I would defiantly recommend that you read "The Two Towers" it is well worth it. I can't wait to read the sequel!

Overall, I loved this book. That being said, I do think this book is for a more mature audience, being that there is some language and more mature scenes in the book.

Know More Books

This was a very enjoyable read. Jamie Waters has created a post-apocalyptic world worth investing your time into.

I wasn't sure about the story until about four chapters in. There are a lot of characters to get to know, and the sheer number of them made the story a bit confusing at the outset. After the initial introductions, the story became much tighter and pulled me along willingly. Even with the large number of characters, each was well written and well developed. I understood why each character needed to be there by the end of the book.

The love story between Carl and Kayla was wonderful, and I can't wait to find out how the love triangle arc with the couple and Alec resolves itself in the next book. That said, the rest of the non-romance plot was great, too. The book is a perfect mix of science fiction and fantasy with large dose of steamy romance mixed in.

If you loved the Hunger Games trilogy or the Divergent series, give this book a shot. You won't regret it. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Truly, I had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading this book. I found out real quick--I was getting into a story that is so engaging, I did not put the book down until I was done reading it. It is a blissful adult blend of all of my favorite books--The Hunger Games, Divergent, and the best aspects of a romance novel. The writing is smooth and perfect, with enough description to paint a wonderful image in your head, but not overwhelming, allowing for your mind to run wild with fantasy. The characters are so artfully crafted that I found myself rooting for my favorite ones! These are characters you can connect with and believe in. This book is fast paced, entertaining, and a true gem for those looking for the best of the adventure/romance/mystery/tech/sci-fi novels. I look forward to seeing what the next adventure from Waters is, because I will be first in line for it.

UPDATE: Ok, I just had to come back and add more to my review, because really, you HAVE to read it! The story line was original, the setting was fantastically crafted, and the characters were such that they had you captivated from page one. I lost so much sleep over this book because I COULD. NOT. PUT. IT. DOWN. I am an avid reader, and I read a new book every few days, and this was by far the best book I have read in 6 months or more. I hope that the next one comes out ASAP, because I will be re-reading the first one with baited breath until it does. The author truly has a gift with storyline and words, and I can not wait to see what other works are created. Even after I finished the book I still find myself thinking about all of the twists in the storyline, and anticipating what could come in the next book. Let the copious amounts of five star reviews on this book be your guide, because they are not over selling it in any way, shape, or form...it really is as incredible as everyone is saying.

Enjoy!!

Recently this book was recommended to me and I have to admit that the plot got me hooked right away as I've always been a fan of dystopian/apocalyptic novels. Very quickly I found myself sucked into the story as Ms. Waters unravels the desolate, tumultuous and gritty story of two people from different worlds who find themselves swept up in a web of intrigue, desperation, danger, , betrayal, survival and growing love. The novel has both a hard and soft edge, unfolding with an evocative and emotionally charged dramatic romance while sucking you into a thrilling and darkly gritty tale of power, greed, destruction and far reaching plots that have dire consequences.

The novel is well-written with a sharp yet lush writing style, using incredibly vivid world-building and distinctive character development that adds layer after layer to the story in a wonderful way. Kayla and Carl are two characters that are incredibly authentic, a collection of strengths, weakness and flaws that meld together to create characters that forge a connection with the reader and the two fall down the rabbit hole of romance, love, intrigue and a will to survive. This was thoroughly entertaining and left me eager to see what else Ms. Waters has written, because this provided a promising look at the author's talented writing.

It always pleases me immensely when an author “sets the stage” with a bit of background information regarding the characters and the story. In this case- the author did a perfect job and I was able to dive right in and start swimming through this excellent mix of sci-fi romance genres.

I more than enjoyed meeting Kayla and she is someone who if real, I would love to have as a friend. I think this is definitely the sign of a great read- when one is reading sci-fi yet feels that friendship would be great with a character.

As someone who loved the Hunger Games and Divergent series, I have set the bar high. Author Jamie Waters met that bar and cleared it without hesitation.

This is a quality read and I think Jamie will soon be on the radar for those who loved the Hungers Games and Divergent books.

I hope there are more books on the way.

Simply stellar read and warrants every single one of the five stars given.

“The Two Towers” is post-apocalyptic science fiction that stands out from the rest both because of its inventive plot and because of its feisty, hot-headed heroine, Kayla.

In the world of “The Two Towers,” humanity has been divided into two groups—those who have been living a life of luxury in the OmniLab towers, which were created to protect the families who could afford it during the war over a century ago, and those who live on the surface, scavenging to survive. The tower-dwellers have a taste for “relics” of the world as it was, and people like Kayla (ruin rats) explore the ruins daily to find and sell those relics for supplies to survive.

A successful trader named Carl has his eye on Kayla and wants to recruit her to his own team—they’re instantly drawn to one another even when they’re at odds. However, Kayla’s past holds a secret even she doesn’t know, and it will threaten their romance and shake her identity to the core.

I never get tired of well-written apocalypse novels, and “The Two Towers” fits that bill. Kayla immediately draws your empathy as a reader—she’s strong and can be rash, but at the same time she’s fiercely devoted to those she cares about and has her own moments of vulnerability. Carl is also a great romantic lead in that he’s the only one who can challenge her—he’s just as stubborn (not to mention good-looking), but he also can be tender and truly cares for her. My favorite part of this book, though, is the world the author has created—how the people are divided, the ruined cities and abandoned buildings, and Kayla’s strange powers all drew me into the story, and I got just enough answers to make me excited for the next book (especially with the love triangle that develops).

Recommended to readers who love post-apocalyptic science fiction that features a unique world and memorable characters.

Science fiction writers love a dystopian future setting. But, their imaginations and craft give readers a variety of storylines to depict a life after the cozy, snuggly one enjoyed today. Author Jaime Waters takes a romantic approach in The Two Towers.

The story opens with Kayla, a ruin rat who scavenges habitats and building from the Old World. The artifacts discovered are then sold in exchange for currency. Ruin rats often find themselves the targets of traders, individuals who scavenge on the behalf of OmniLab. On this particularly day, Kayla comes face to face with Carl, a trader who manages the territory within District 12. He makes an agreement with Kayla that if she visits his base camp for a possible business relationship, she can keep the valuables that she discovered during her rummaging. She plays coy as if she hardly found a thing (though she’s hit quite the jackpot), but agrees to the meeting despite her partner Veridian’s reservations. Neither Kayla nor Carl are aware of how significant this chance meeting is for their futures.

Kayla is a no nonsense young woman in a world mired with cocky and cruel men, yet she manages to handle them all with wit, candor, and an unparalleled beauty she’s completely unaware of. Carl is a handsome, level-minded man who is determined to prove to Kayla that not all traders are untrustworthy. When working for Carl ultimately leads to her true identity, she has to choose between handling the life in the Towers with grace and finesse, or in typical Kayla fashion.

I loved the character Kayla the moment I started reading this book. She is the epitome of spunk, and has more balls than most guys I know. It is easy to see why Carl falls for her immediately upon meeting her, as well as Alec. I enjoyed the fast pace of the novel. The author gets right into the action, and things move at a nice, steady pace from there. You’ll easily finish this book in one sitting. And once again, it is very interesting to see a different perspective on what the future holds for planet Earth without conquering aliens or slobbering zombies. I highly recommend this book for all readers.

This book is based in a world that has been destroyed by war, the main character is Kayla... a ruin rat. Someone who goes into the ruins in search of treasure to sell to the Traders for the rich people who live in the Two Towers.

Kayla is like a cross between Indiana Jones and Macgyver with a whole lot of sexiness thrown in....

The story takes you on a roller coaster... Awesome scenes in the ruins to some great action.... then a mega twist... then when you think you know where the story is taking you .... BAM! another twist and you are in yet another totally unexpected place!

This book was very entertaining and I can't wait until the next one comes out! The characters are very well developed and the storyline was amazing! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Dystopian novel, Sci- Fi, Fantasy, or Romance.

p.s. One more thing... when you least expect it... Kayla will do or say something that will make you burst out in laughter... so take care not to cover your keyboard in coffee like I did! :) LOL!

I really enjoyed reading this book! I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The blurb and cover drew me in and I have to say, the story didn't disappoint. I was expecting a dystopian future story, but actually this was a little bit of everything that I like: sci-fi, fantasy, romance, ancient secrets - it would make an awesome TV series.
What I liked most about the book was Kayla, the protagonist, and her relationship with the supporting characters (Carl and Alec). The dialogues made me laugh out loud every now and then. She's witty, sarcastic, and she doesn't take nonsense from people who are trying to turn her world upside down. But she isn't pig-headed to the point where she won't listen to anyone, either.
One minor complaint I had was that there was a little bit too much 'inner dialogue' where the reader is being told what Kayla's thinking or feeling. The competently-written dialogue is more than enough to make it obvious what she's going through! Other than that, kudos for the editing. I didn't spot any typos or awkward sentence structures. Let's hope this one gets a sequel! I'm curious to see what else Ms Waters can come up with :)

This book is absolutely awesome. I loved it from start to finish and really hated to see it end. I definitely want more! It is one of the best books I have read. There was so much intrigue and unexpected twists and turns, leaving the reader breathless at times. I could not stop reading it and when I did take breaks I continued to wonder what was going to happen next. The attention to details and descriptions were incredible. The characters are outstanding and so real and truly jump into your soul. Each one added something wonderful to it and the story line was intense. I loved them all. Kayla rocks and was my hero for sure and I was touched by the attitude and dedication of Kayla for those around her, even strangers. She has spunk and made me giggle several times. She was a truly beautiful heroine who never saw herself like the rest of the world did. She should inspire us all to be more giving and stop fighting among ourselves. We have but one world to share. Let it be in peace. The writing was so clear and concise and had a perfect flow to it. The author Jamie A. Waters is truly gifted and a brilliant writer. Her imagination is immense and holds no bounds. Her passion shines through with each word and I cannot wait to read the next book from this series. This would be an awesome movie! I strongly recommend this book to everyone. You will not be disappointed.

This book is a must read for fans of sci-fi visions of the future. (Fans of Firefly, I'm talking to you!)

The planet has been completely destroyed by war. For those who can and are willing to pay, two self-sustaining towers can offer safety and luxury. But for everyone else, there is the surface where people scavenge, barter, and trade to get by.

This is the first work that I've read by Jamie A. Waters, but her writing introduced characters to the reader as if they were old friends. Each character was painted with familiarity. Immediately, I found myself connected to "ruin rat" Kayla who is a spunky, tough, and at her core, sensitive character. She scared me at times and surprised me a few times as well.

While reading this book, I found myself literally sitting on the edge of my seat as I devoured the pages. It was so intense and highly entertaining.

The author has a keen sense of dialogue and description. (And I have to say, some of the best editing I’ve seen in a while.)

I highly recommend this book, and can’t wait to read the next!

"The Two Towers" is the kind of novel that I just can't help but dive headfirst into. Using strong world-building and a fast-paced plot, this post apocalyptic novel explores not only the realities of living in a world that is hard and unforgiving, but explores the concepts of society and social classes as well. Jamie A. Waters easily draws readers in with a smooth story that mixes danger, intrigue, drama, action, romance and mystery to weave a novel that is as memorable as it is entertaining. The evolving story between Kayla and Carl has a strongly evocative and dramatic tone, adding in layer after layer of intrigue to the story... bringing a human element to the dystopian/post-apocalyptic storyline.

The well-written novel has a lush and descriptive writing style that paints each scene with a fine tipped brush, adding depth and intricacies to the story... making for truly engaging novel. The author has a lot of talent in storytelling building up the plot and laying the foundation for an even more satisfying series that has me eager to read the next novel in The Two Towers Series.

Overall, this was well worth the read and is definitely a novel that I would recommend to readers looking for a fast-paced apocalyptic novel to sink their teeth into. It's a post apocalyptic, dystopian, romance drama that has all the makings of a great series... one that is worth reading.

Jamie Waters has written something I’ve been looking for in the science fiction genre for a long time: a well-crafted romantic science fiction. As a writer myself, I know it’s not easy to pull it off—either you focus too much on the romance, leaving the science seeming like an afterthought; or vice versa. But in ‘The Two Towers’, the author succeeds in crafting a well-balanced tale populated by characters you can—and will—root for.

In the ‘Two Towers’, you encounter a severely damaged earth, and the only safe place left on the entire planet are the confines of the so-called Two towers—built and maintained by a corporation called the Omnilab. But like today, living in the Two Towers is mostly a privilege among the top 2% of the population—it is prohibitively expensive. Beyond the Two Towers is a ruined landscape reminiscent of the post-apocalyptic world made evocatively famous in such video games as ‘Fallout’ or novels such as Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’—amid a scattering of slums and low-life communities, people scrat out a living by whatever they can trade with. Against this sordid backdrop is the story of a sharp, quick-witted hacker, Kayla, who stumbled upon a strange artefact that happens to have something vital to do with the people running Omnilab. She ends up working with Carl, who is driven by his own self-interest in exposing the corruption within OmniLab’s ranks. But what started out as a cut-and-dried mission turns out to be merely the tip of a far-reaching conspiracy that will pull you in and send you on a white-knuckle suspenseful ride—and that’s only for starters.

Indeed, ‘The Two Towers’ is a sleek, futuristic techno-thriller, mitigated only in the right places by the deepening attraction between the two main characters. There is so much at stake, and at times, it’s jaws-dropping to see how author Jamie Waters manages to execute and flesh out the many layers of plot twists and complications. What’s more, the writing reminds me so much of William Gibson in his ‘Neuromancer’ days—but of course, Jamie Waters has her own distinct literary style that will draw you in.

I highly recommend ‘The Two Towers’ to anyone who loves a fascinating read. It will completely absorb you into its tangle of twists—and I mean that in the most positive way. Get a copy.

Delivering a powerful and captivating post-apocalyptic vision, The Two Towers by author Jamie A. Waters is science fiction at its best. Action packed, inventive, bold, Waters spins a highly visual tale, underpinned by well observed characterisation and acerbic dialogue. It’s easy to read, yet highly immersive, as all notable science fiction should be and competently captures the essence of a raw and dour future that is cleverly constrained in design. The technology is intriguing, but Waters judiciously maintains a balance between suspense and tension by avoiding the distraction of complex technological patois, which in turn brings her characters to the fore. All well observed, she has created some genuinely memorable characters in Kayla and Carl. Characters that quickly loom large in the imagination and are highly endearing as their burgeoning relationship rapidly evolves. Always dulling the edge of predictability with timely revelations, whilst building a palpable futuristic social theme that might easily transition into wider mediums.

Bound to be well received by fans of post apocalyptic SF, The Two Towers marks a highly notable debut by author Jamie A. Waters and is highly recommended!

Sincere Review

Somewhere in the near/far future planet earth will be after a catastrophe.
Those that will have money will be able to live and protect their families and live in raising big towers while the others, the poor, will struggle on a daily basis. Seem we know this kind of plots. Well, we don't.

Kayla, a hacker, a rebel, found something called as The Aurelia Data Cube and from this point the script won't let you put the book down.
This is a great sci-fi book that even if you are not this genre fan, grab it.

Jamie A. Waters did a great work in building the plot and the events that made Kayla to become who she is.I read it on my HDX. Works great.

Highly recommend.
