I loved Var and Alma's romance; the two had instant chemistry, and everyone could tell something was happening between them. It was seamless how the religions, traditions, histories, and cultures of the aliens and humans were explained. The author did not dedicate a whole section of the book to explaining the different cultures and traditions of these characters. Instead, this was infused into the story through conversations and dialog, which made the story engaging because I learned about the different histories and cultures in real time with Alma and her team. The story was flawless and had intriguing plot twists, captivating characters, and beautiful descriptions. The end left me craving more.

Another stroke of pure genius from Curtis was in outlining the various abbreviations of the people and items that make up the story from the outset. It made my understanding of such a complicated story so much simpler. Diseases such as Tech flu and the fables of the lost people make this novel feel like an authentic depiction of a future world. With romance, fights, and palace intrigue, this novel has it all in spades and is a cut above the rest of its genre.
