The plot has the sort of activity one would find in classic warfare novels while the characters have solid origin stories laced with previous dealings with their opposition. This builds up a level of anticipation in the reader of a major skirmish at some point. The flow of the conversations between the characters is easy to follow. It varies from technical and rapid when there are altercations between the combatants to something I would find more at home in a James Bond story. Nothing personifies this more than when West has to get Madison out of harm's way on her day off. The two things that stand out in this novel and give it an authentic feel of an engaging cliffhanger are the quality of the futuristic firepower on offer and the Marstelli brothers’ appreciation for pure combat. Spada’s The Warmaker is an action junkie's dream novel.

The Warmaker by Benjamin Spada is a must-read! The expertly woven plotline and the incomparable prowess in the narration captured my attention from the first chapter to the last. It's hard to put the book down once you start reading it. I loved how vivid the author was with descriptions of events, places, and emotions. This helped to create a mental picture of what was happening. The characters are also well-developed, and Spada uses suspense to great effect. The twists and turns in the flawlessly flowing plotline kept me on the edge of my seat and yearning for more. Some of the concepts captured, such as war and weapons development, are thought-provoking, especially now that tensions are rising among different countries. I cannot wait to read something else by this talented author.
