They Rode Together: The Landon Saga, Book 7 is a historical western written by Tell Cotten. Sheriff Rondo Landon is losing his position in Empty-lake in light of his friendship with Lee Mattingly and failure to apprehend the gunfighter after his and Brian Clark's killing of Ike Nash, a corrupt landowner, and Ron Gallegan, a politician. Losing his position meant that Rondo and his wife, Rachel, would have to leave their house, which went along with the sheriff's position. The town council's actions were provoked by Rock Bullen, a bounty hunter known for taking no prisoners alive. Bullen's been hired by Ike's former right-hand man to capture Lee. Rachel and Rondo are heading out to J.T. Tussle's place. The cattle rancher had offered Rondo a job if he ever needed one, and this seems the perfect time to take him up on that offer.

Tell Cotten's historical western series, The Landon Saga, just keeps getting better. They Rode Together is the seventh book in the series, and it contains a rare look at the normally far-flung brothers mostly in one place. While this title can be read on its own, the author suggests beginning with the first book in the series, Confessions of a Gunfighter, and I would have to agree. This exciting and well-written family saga follows the Landons and gives the reader a marvelous and authentic feel for the history of the west. Each novel builds beautifully from its predecessors. I particularly enjoy the nature and outdoors writing that Cotten works so well into these books, and this book is no exception. They Rode Together is action-packed and exciting, and it's one of those reads that will keep you up at night wanting to find out what's happening next. It's most highly recommended.

They Rode Together by Tell Cotten continues The Landon Saga story. A woman escaped from prison. Her father-in-law. His manager. The bounty hunter. What ties them all together? A cowman suffers a violent attack and two outlaws come to his rescue. He has to get his yearlings to market and between them they start a cattle drive, heading for Fort Worth. Nothing ever goes to plan though and along the way they find themselves in their fair share of trouble. Herd cutters try to thin out their herd, thunderstorms wreak havoc, and a bounty hunter on their trail doesn’t bode well. Fights break out, tempers are high. Can they get the cattle to market in safety? And can they save the ranches from the hands of troublemakers?

They Rode Together by Tell Cotten is a western story that is part of a continuing saga. Mr. Cotten says that this book can be read on its own, but not having read the rest of the saga I found myself a little lost as to who was who. However, putting that aside, the story was well narrated and the character development was good – most of this was done in previous books. I found the story easy to follow and I enjoyed it. I would, in all honesty, recommend that readers start at the beginning of the saga though – I will more than likely read them all and then read this one again to see if it changes my perspective. What I read was good and well written, with plenty going on and lots of action.

Things are changing in the state of Texas. Speculators are buying up ranches across the state. Why? Because the railroad is about to be built and they will have the right of way and are set to become very, very rich. But there's one stumbling block. The ranch of J.T. Tussle sits right in the middle, and J.T. will not sell. The speculators can't let that be. So, a violent attack leaves Tussle in trouble that could have been disastrous if the Landons and Lee Mattingly hadn't been there to intervene. Tussle must get his yearlings to market and the Landons, Mattingly, and Brian Clark decide to help as they embark on a cattle drive to Fort Worth. In the end, two old enemies must put aside differences to work and ride together to get it done in They Rode Together (The Landon Saga Book 7) by Tell Cotten.

Early on I was an avid reader of western fiction. I loved everything to do with cowboys. Reading the books of the Landon Saga has rekindled that interest. Some folks hear the words 'here we go again' as a bad thing, but with this series of books, 'here we go again' simply means 'great, another fantastic book is available.' Tell Cotten is a wonderful story teller. His characters are strong, both the good and bad. His writing style is simple and easy to read and enjoy. The story moves rapidly along and the reader is surprised and a little sad when the story is finished but eagerly awaiting the next in the series. Well done, Tell.

They Rode Together (The Landon Saga Book 7) by Tell Cotten continues the saga of the Landons and takes readers back to a harder, more rustic time in history. J.T. Tussle, a cowman, is attacked and left in a spot of trouble. The Landons, along with Lee Mattingly, step up to help out by volunteering to drive the yearling cattle to the market in Fort Worth for J.T. This might seem like an easy and straight forward task, but nothing is as it seems in the wild west and along the way the men run into herd cutters, a bounty hunter, thunderstorms, and relationships among other things.

Nothing is ever straight up in real life and nothing is straight up in the Landon Saga, making it one reason among many to enjoy. Tell Cotten has written a great book with this seventh story in the Landon saga, but it is still fresh and enjoyable with rich backgrounds and rich characters as well. As a history buff, I always tend to take note of the finer details in books set in a different era and this one gave me nothing much to complain about so a big thumbs up. Anyone who enjoys a western story that is well written, well researched and just enjoyable overall is going to enjoy this book. You get the perfect blend of adventure, humor and serious notes. You have to love a book that involves a man saying, “Hey, are you dead?” I truly enjoyed this one.

In They Rode Together (The Landon Saga Book 7) by Tell Cotten, all roads lead to J.T. Tussle's ranch in Midway. Lee and Brian were running for their lives with a bounty hunter hot on their trail. Recently dethroned sheriff of Empty-lake, Rondo Landon, was headed to the same ranch to see Tussle about a job. Newly appointed Texas Rangers Yancy and Cooper were headed there to celebrate Tussle's birthday. Unknown to all, another group with sinister intentions was also on their way to the ranch and they were bringing serious trouble with them. Tussle would need all the help if he was to stand a chance against the intruders. Thankfully, his guests were more than eager to offer the needed help. The ranch soon turned into a bloodbath as the visitors banded up against the intruders, while at the same time trying to resolve their own pre-existing conflicts.

They Rode Together (The Landon Saga Book 7) by Tell Cotten is a flawlessly plotted story guaranteed to deliver the same level of amazing reading thrills that have always been a signature of The Landon Saga series. Tell Cotten's writing style is very compelling, gets into the thick of the plot right away, and keeps you on a high throughout. The story keeps you on the edge with anxiety and anticipation as the plot unfolds. Tell Cotten has delivered yet another captivating piece of The Landon Saga and, just like those before it, this piece fits perfectly. It is the perfect mix of conflict, drama, romance and some good old Texas action, and I cannot wait to read the next episode in this compelling series.
