Author Biography

Wilsdaryon 'Wil' Prescher is an emerging author of his first book titled "This Is Is Me Trying: Navigating Through A Lifetime of Trauma," which is available on Amazon.

Born in Temple, Texas, and at seven years old, he'd been placed into the foster care system due to trauma and abuse; sadly, he spent the next few years bouncing from foster home to foster home. At the age of twelve, Wil went to a foster home in Walnut Springs, Texas, with loving people who would eventually become his adoptive family.

Wil has spent the last four years studying mental health and substance abuse issues while working with at-risk youth in multiple organizations. During this time, he realized the effects of music therapy on a person's soul and emotional well-being; he is continuing his education to fulfill his dream of becoming a therapist. He hopes to share his experiences with others to show that something good can come out of an unfortunate situation out of his control.

When he is not working or studying, Wil enjoys spending time with his family, who have adopted him. He also enjoys hiking and the outdoors. You can always find him jamming to the music of "Pink" with his two cats, and he still resides in Houston, Texas.

This Is Me Trying: Navigating Through A Lifetime of Trauma is a work of non-fiction in the memoir subgenre. It is aimed at mature readers and was penned by author Wilsdaryon Prescher. The book follows the author's recovery from the abuse he endured in his youth, a journey made possible by the power of music. Throughout the rocky road of escaping the abuse, developing coping mechanisms that hindered more than they helped, and encountering the biases that people hold against abuse survivors, the power of music provides a tool for the author to rediscover their authentic self and move forward into adulthood.

I’m always in awe of any author penning a memoir, especially one willing to show sincere emotional vulnerability to their readers, but sometimes an author leaves nothing off the table when describing the upsetting and painful parts of their lives. Such an author is Wilsdaryon Prescher, whose willingness to frankly portray some of the most challenging situations a young person can live through is matched deftly by his skillful prose in doing justice to the depiction of those moments. This book is an emotional journey that readers will be moved by as they experience the hardships of the author's younger years and the rocky road to happiness that came with adulthood. Overall, This Is Me Trying is an honest depiction of the never-ending struggle toward recovery and a book that frankly depicts mental health issues and the journey to better mental and emotional wellbeing, wherever your starting point in life may be.

This is a gut-wrenching, sad, beautiful, honest story of a young man's struggle with abuse and neglect throughout his life. This book shows that you can go through the deepest hell and still pull yourself out. I'm so proud that Wilsdaryon shared his story so that others can find the help and strength to survive their own pain.
