Author Biography

A Navy brat and graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, LORRIE FARRELLY is proud to be a Fightin' Banana Slug. (Well, okay, they're really lovers, not fighters.) Following graduate school at Northwestern University, she began a career in education that included teaching art to 4th graders, drama to 8th graders, and finally, math to high school students. (If anybody loses asymptotes, she can probably find them.)
She's a three-time winner on "Jeopardy!" (despite forgetting the chemical symbol for sulfuric acid ... oh, wait - she never knew that in the first place). She has shepherded wide-eyed foreign exchange students along Hollywood Blvd ("As many stars and lunatics as there are in the Heavens"), and has happily curried and shoveled as a ranch hand at Disneyland's Circle D Ranch. And always, she writes.
Lorrie has won a Presidential Commendation for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics. She's been a Renaissance nominee for Teacher of the Year and a finalist for the Orange Rose Award in romantic fiction. She's never won the lottery, except where her family is concerned. For her, they're the ultimate prize.

Timelapse by Lorrie Farrelly is a story about Alex Morgan, single father of 4-year-old Jack, and Assistant Professor at Capitol University in Georgetown. When Alex is still a student in graduate school, his wife, Casey is tragically killed in a drunken car accident. The 24-year-old Alex is left to raise their infant son by himself with the help of his mother, Frannie. Emotionally scarred, Alex believes he has experienced grief in the worst way, and the only other potential pain he can imagine is losing his son, around whom his life revolves. Little does Alex know something terrible is looming in the near future. After an inexplicable break into his office at the university, Alex finds himself in a time warped present day, and discovers that the grief from his past is nothing compared to what is possible in the cruel reality of this alternate universe.

Lorrie Farrelly is an incredible writer. Timelapse literally kept me on my toes. This is such a remarkable novel. I started reading it and could not put it down until I finished. I felt as if I were actually in the story, experiencing the emotion and pain that Alex felt after his wife died; the fear of not knowing where in time he would end up next, and the riptide that coursed through his body as he contemplated whether he would ever be reunited with his son. This novel greatly moved me. It made me reflect on the rights and freedoms that I, as well as many others, take for granted. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to be emotionally awakened.

Alex managed to cheat death once before when his pregnant young love was killed in a car accident. However the accident left him with one thing to be thankful for - his son Jack. Now, four years later, he is struggling to keep his life on track when suddenly everything changes for him. His life will never again be what he thought it would be. Alex is thrown into a whole new world or a fantasy in Timelapse by Lorrie Farrelly. It simply doesn’t seem like it could really be his life but it is, and he’s going to have to struggle to survive it.

This book really intrigued me. I was able to get into it quickly and then I just couldn’t pull myself away. I like stories with a bit of a sad start because that little tearjerker at the beginning makes you feel even closer to the main character throughout. And then there was Jack, of course, who definitely makes you want to melt. Alex seems like the type of guy any girl would fall in love with and though he’s not necessarily the person you would pick for this task, he seems like he’ll do an excellent job with it. The world is changing in this story and things that Alex never would have thought possible suddenly are. But is he going to get distracted by what these new-found tricks and abilities could possibly do for him or will he stay on track and save the world in Timelapse?

Professor Alex Morgan accidentally discovers a time travel device, shaped like a cellphone, which can take him to any part of history that he desires. Unfortunately, it is not obvious what the device can do and he doesn't know how to work it. When he toys with it, it suddenly activates, taking him to present time but to a parallel universe that is very different from his own. The building he is in is no longer a university, where he works as a history professor. It is now the Federal Bureau of Inquisitions. Outside the building, a riot is raging, the result of a protest to restore the Bill of Rights. Caught up in the riot, he commandeers a police van and escapes, subsequently rescuing a young protester, a beautiful 22-year-old girl disguised as a boy. After some initial trouble, Alex teams up with Jesse to sort out the reason that the world has gone so wrong. Their adventures, while nearly killing them numerous times, lead them to the inventor of the cellphone device and the perpetrator of the acts that have changed the world. They fall hopelessly in love along the way.

Lorrie Farrelly, the author of Timelapse, has done a marvelous job of describing a world gone crazy, where public displays of affection could get two lovers arrested; where a simple curse word uttered in public is a violation of the law, but where rape and brutality at the hands of the law enforcers are commonplace. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a fast-paced story that keeps the pages turning until the very end. This is one of my favorite books of the year.
