If you have followed the Twin Rivers Series by Michael Fields, you won't be disappointed with the way he wraps it all up with Twin River IV: C U When U Get There. This thriller takes off 18 years after the birth of Becky Wilson's twins, but still depicts the same sinister tone and characterization of book three. Cain, a younger version of the same evil, returns to Twin Rivers from Death Valley, California. He has committed a horrendous act in China Lake after kidnapping a bus with school children on it. Cain and his uncle Abel take one of those school children with him. Twin Rivers has changed somewhat without the Cain brothers, but it still has its problems, though Gene Brooks is still there to try to keep a lid on things. The intensity continues to increase as ugly events in Twin Rivers are about to collide with the evil that is bearing down upon them.

C U When U Get There is a great way for Michael Fields to wrap up the Twin Rivers Series. By reliving the same evil of Cain within his son, but at a whole new level, the reader is drawn right back into the thriller where Michael left off, but from a fresh point of view. I particularly liked how he drew in elements of the Coso warriors of the Mojave Desert into the story. C U When U Get There is a story of good surviving in spite of evil, and eventually triumphing over it. Intense, sinister and thrilling; Michael Fields has finished the Twin Rivers Series with a powerful ending.

Twin River IV: C U When U Get There by Michael Fields starts in Death Valley, Nevada, 1998, where 36-year-old Abel Towers and his 18-year-old nephew, Cain Towers, reside. Abel recounts his childhood with his brother, the violent history of sexual abuse, murders and revenge. Young Cain seeks out his mother, Becky, and his twin brother, Niles, who now live happily at Twin River. The history of sinister acts of the Towers will continue to terrorize again, as Cain becomes the leader and make plans to eliminate them, intending to finish what his father had started years ago.

Fields maintains the elements that made Twin River a riveting series; the potent combination of crime, mystery and drama make this fourth book a gripping read like its predecessors. The Towers’ sinister and demented aura permeate the story from start to finish. The plot pace is good, fast and slow at the right places. Fields’ new and old characters are as well fleshed out as ever, and their emotions never fail to resonate from page to page. Some parts were hard to read, but the violent aspect of the story was expected.

On the whole, this is another commendable work from Fields. It may not be for everyone, but Twin River IV: C U When U Get There is for older YA and mature readers who like dark, gritty tales. It is definitely substantial enough as a standalone, but reading the previous books will give a better picture of the Twin River series. Readers who are already fans of Michael Fields’ work will be satisfied with this latest instalment.

C U When U Get There is the fourth book in Michael Fields's Twin River series. Cain Towers is not your average eighteen year old male. Motivated by what the voices in his head tell him to do, he sets out on a path towards Twin River, Pennsylvania, with his uncle Abel. Before even getting to his destination, he does things that paint him undeniably as a very disturbed individual. Stanley, a teenager who comes from a good family, finds himself in Cain's custody. Exactly what Cain wants with him is a mystery, but some of Cain's intentions are clear and it does not bode well for a Twin River High School football player named Niles. Cain and Niles are twins, but it's something that Niles doesn't even know.

This novel, set in 1998, is all about predators and prey. It's a theme the author illustrates brilliantly in the very first chapter when he shows us how animals kill to survive. Enter Cain Towers. He is one of the most disturbing antagonists I've encountered in a novel thus far. He will make readers shudder. In the beginning, the author focuses his attention mainly on Cain and the massive role he plays in the overall storyline. Then, in Twin River, we are introduced to predators like a substitute teacher who doesn't know how to keep his hands to himself, as well as the predator that kills for food, but with a gun. This novel, involving young adults, is the true definition of a hair-raising thriller.
